Hello,
I recently purchased a 2.16 ct J VS2 diamond from Whiteflash. The ring arrived a few days ago and as soon as I opened it I loved the way it sparkled. However, as I continue to look at it closely I keep getting the feeling that maybe I should have gone with a slightly better color. From the side there is a definite pale yellow tint. Face up in the right light it can seem very sparkly so you don''t notice the color, but other times it seems just slightly darker than I would like. This is not to say the ring is bad, but I just wonder while I''m still in the return window if it might be better to exchange it for an I SI1.

Here is the stone I got:

Here are two I SI1 stones currently on whiteflash:

I''m already at the upper limit of my budget so I can''t really spend thousands more to get a H or better and get VS2 or better clarity since I would ideally like something over 2 ct, but I would be willing to spend an extra $1K or so if it meant a noticibly better color without much noticible difference in clarity. Assuming these other stones are "eye clean," do you think it would be worth exchanging for one of them? Would I really notice a difference in the color between equally well cut J and I stones? I do really like my current stone, but I don''t want to later regret not getting a better color.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I know how you feel as I own a K for a pendant, and once I started seeing the color, the nagging feeling that I should upgrade to a higher color hasn''t gone away.

With that said, you may or you may not notice the difference in color. If your J is low (closer to a K) and the I''s are closer to an H, you''d probably be able to see the difference. But the only way to find out for sure is to see them side by side.
I''d ask WF which "I" is "whiter" and then have them send it to me or an appraiser where I can compare them.

I originally had a 1.70 J VS2 from whiteflash and the color bothered me a bit as well. No one ever noticed it but me. But like you there were times I noticed color
and it bugged me. I upgraded with BGD diamonds to a I VS2 and could not be happier. I went up in size to a 2.57, which would show color more and I dont
notice any. I wear it with an eternity band of F-G stones and they look great together. If it bugs you change it, but if you dont do it within your window you
can always upgrade later. Now is a great time though with diamond prices being what they are, so go for it!!!

Thanks for all the help. I will probably contact Whiteflash to see if they can tell me how the I SI1 diamonds they have look.

That sounds like a good plan. If the J is bothering you now, chances are you''ll always wonder if you made a mistake.

Ditto, explore the options of whether you can get something in a higher colour.
