First timer here, hoping I found a good one...but would like to get a few expert options.

GIA # 1268135364

What is the loose diamon worth?

Thanks so much for your time!!

It seems to be a GIA XXX but has strong florescence and H color. Do you think it will still look white and have an amazing "sparkle factor"? I think theyll take $4,900.

Cheers!

Scores a 3.5 on the HCA - "worth buying if the price is right". It's got a larger pavillion angle than most ideal cuts have. You can read about the HCA https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca. Look for a score under 2. Personally I'd pass - there are better cut stones out there that sparkle more!

Fair price depends on where you are buying the diamond (online, B&M, second-hand), and what type of warranty/return/buy-back/upgrade policies are offered by the vendor. Based on comps, if the stone is purchased from an online vendor (not second hand) with consumer-friendly policies for return, trade-in, etc., it might be offered at a price point of around $5500.

It's at a gem show...$4500. But I'm afraid the fluorescent might wash the diamond out a little. But I'd assume GIA XXX should have amazing sparkle to it, correct? Is 3.5 HCA a hard pass?

Is strong blue flor a deal breaker?

No returns or any other consumer friendly perks...just GIA certificate, appraisal and setting included.

My personal opinion? If you are not in the wholesale section with a tax id number buying from a known-vendor, there are no deals in the retail area of Gem Shows...especially for diamonds. There is a reason they are selling this diamond at that price. Maybe they've had a terrible run and need some sales, but that is not usually the case. A 3.5 with the information you have and if you can't judge the performance with your eyes, you have to consider if you feel it is a good investment of your funds. All the clarity issue are right in the table...maybe fine maybe not.

It's a deal breaker if it's badly impacted by it ie it looks like it is straining to sparkle when out in sunlight or in some indoor lighting situations or if you want to pay a bit more for a better cut stone.

Thanks EVERYONE for the replies! If it's a GIA XXX but only a 3.5 performer, is that a red flag? I was under the impression that cut is everything as far as brilliance and sparkle are concerned. It's weird that a XXX would score 3.5.Should XXX usually be 2 or less? It was a beautiful stone but it just didn't seem to have the amazing fire and ice like some of the others did...was I in my head at that point because I was staring at it for about a half hour? Maybe lol hard to tell...

3.5 tells you you the angles are not complimentary..so the stone is leaking light. GIAXXX stones require several more screening steps to be assured of top performance aka sparkle.

I ended up passing. Thanks everyone for your expert advice!

I guess, back to james allen?? Any other sites I should be looking at?

Cheers!

Just FYI for you in the future...there are a lot of GIA XXX stones that are not good performers. It takes more than just XXX. Here is a cheat sheet of
angles/specs we look for in a good performer.

depth 60-62.3
table 54-58
crown 34-35
pavilion 40.6-41
(34 pairs better with 41 and 35 pairs better with 40.6) There are some stones that may fall slightly out of this range that could still be good performers
but an idealscope/aset image would be needed to verify. Small changes in the pavilion like 41.2 really adversely affect the stone (like the one you posted).

Good Old Gold Ascendancy line, Whiteflash ACA's, Brian Gavin, Crafted by Infinity, IDJ... (I'm sure I'm missing someone!)
