Should I be worried about this Feathering Near Girdle?

Should I be worried about the feathering around the girdle of this stone? I've read conflicting information pointing both ways. It will be set in a 4 prong solitaire. I'm wondering if it could be vulnerable to chipping during setting or everyday life.

Thanks for any feedback!

Diggindeeper,

I see what you see. If I was looking at a plot for an SI2 or I1 diamond I’d be concerned we were seeing bearding (damage caused by the machinery in the bruting process) – this usually happens in older stones, girdled prior to modern machinery.

However this is a VS2 diamond, judged by a reliable lab. Those marks are there as a notation and probably appear far more severe than the actual inclusions are, otherwise it would not be VS. The process the diamond goes through from rough to sales is far more brutal than anything that will happen once the stone is set and worn.

BTW, for any diamond you buy I recommend a good insurance policy. Even a flawless diamond can chip if “knocked” against a hard surface in just the right (or wrong) way.

I echo everything diamond hawk has said. I have a D colour VS2 pear, that was graded due to a feather at the girdle, that being the only inclusion. At some point in the weeks after I had the diamond set, the feather chipped out  It is not visible to the naked eye & I only noticed it one day when I was running my finger nail along the side of the stone. In my case I was very unlucky for it to chip out, but also very lucky in that it hasn't affected the integrity of the diamond or impacted its value. Insurance. Always.

Thanks Diamond Hawk and Alex T. I'm still unsure whether or not I want to go with this diamond. But now I know the insurance is a non compromise.
