Spring is coming to an end in my part of the country, and it won't be long before shorts become a staple of my wardrobe. I am resistant this year as I am not happy with a single pair I own. I am very tall and thin (5'8" and size 0-2). It seems that the only shorts that fit me in the waist only have 1.5-2 inch inseam. I am at the age where rocking the super short shorts is just not my thing any more. I would appreciate any suggestions with where to find shorts in smaller sizes with a little longer in seam. Does anyone have a brand they LOVE? And not to be too picky, but I refuse to iron shorts. Linen pants, yes. Silk blouses, yes. Shorts, no.

I've always loved J. Crew chino shorts. They come in your size and several lengths. They last forever. I'm wearing a pair of 9" ones right now and I have about 6 pair in different colors and varying lengths.

ETA: I don't iron mine. I hang them in my closet and if they have any creases I have a spray bottle of water I spritz them lightly with and give them a little shake and voila, no wrinkles, ready-to-wear.

I went shorts shopping with my 21 year-old daughter because I had promised her I would buy her a couple of pairs of inexpensive shorts at the end of April. What was supposed to be a brief visit to one free standing store turned into a nightmare trip to that store and then to many stores in a mall I had no desire to visit at all, let alone spend hours in!

The problem is that after years of having worn low-rise shorts, my daughter could only find high-rise shorts this season. She only wanted blue denim, too. She was never sure what size she was, a 1 or a 3, and had to try everything on as well. I was ready to rip out my hair and we left the mall empty handed in the end. I told her to go onto eBay and look up old styles from previous seasons and just guess about whether to buy a 1 or a 3!

Deb/AGBF, who never thought her eye would be caught by a thread on shorts!!! ;))

Favorite casual shorts are 5" inseam ones from Old Navy. Wash and wear, very cheap in price but are absolutely perfect for a casual short.

My favourite dressy short is from Ann Taylor Loft. I think they are slightly shorter with a 4" inseam but they are in beautiful polished cotton that I love!

I second the LOFT. Their sizes run a little big though, so a 0 might still be loose on you. They are age appropriate and definitely length appropriate.

J Crew and Anthropologie are my favorite places for shorts.

Yep! JCrew--lots of longer lengths.

I have always had trouble with waist sizes being too large too. I have had luck with J Crew size 00, but I still take them to my tailor to have the waist taken in. Their Chino shorts come in 3", 4", 5", 7", and 9" lengths. You could also try The Limited, Ann Taylor, and Banana Republic, but again, every pair I purchase goes directly to the tailor for alterations. I almost never have the ability to buy and wear a pair of shorts right off the rack.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I'm really excited about the jcrew shorts. They seem to be my style and I love the variable lengths. I will also check out anthropology, but Loft is out. I never seem to find something that fits there. I seem to be lacking in whatever womanly curves that it takes to fill out their clothes.

Momhappy, I too usually get my shorts tailored in at the waist. If I don't my toddlers could pull them down when they hang on me.
