Shipping / Transit Insurance

I''m wondering if anyone knows of companies who will insure a ring whilst it''s in transit? I''ve got one which needs to go back from Bahrain to USA for alterations and am having a nightmare arranging shipping!!

I''ve done a search on here and I know that even shipping from Canada is a problem. I''m very jealous of those States based people - you have the US Postal Service!

All the courier companies I have spoken to (DHL, FedEx, UPS, TNT) either don''t ship jewelry at all or will only insure it for 500 US dollars. It''s very irritating that companies such as DHL will insure and ship jewelry but only from Germany or China!!

The ring came here with FedEx but was insured by the company who made it and their insurance company is trade only (I think) so I can''t use them.

I''ve contacted numerous household insurance companies regarding this problem and am waiting to hear back from most of them! Customer service is a dying art out here!!

So what I really need is a company who will deal internationally with a private individual. Here''s hoping that someone else has had the same problem and found an answer!!

Have you asked Bahrain and see what they recommend?

I've contacted all the couriers in Bahrain and even looked for other ways of shipping from the Middle East. Things aren't as web based so it's difficult to get information unless you ring up. I'm not an arabic speaker and sometimes it's a little difficult explaining something like this to someone who doesn't have English as a first language! One response I got was ' why bother buying from abroad when we have the gold souk here?'

I don't think the souk is great for platinum!!

Any trade people who might know of someone who would also deal with members of the public?

I'm sure there must be someone out there who's found a solution to this one!
