Shared prong setting OK for everyday wear?

Hi again!

Well, I went to go see the Gottlieb shared prong wedding set in person today. It really is gorgeous! My concern is, however, that it is pretty delicate and may not be the most sturdy type of setting for everyday wear. The diamond are each only 2 or 3 points and the two bands (semi mount & wedding band) measure only about 5 mm wide. I love the setting but I am very hard on my jewelry (I am a pharmacist and even though I only work part time, I get my hands pretty icky at work). I also have a 2 year old and a 1 year old and am afraid of scratching them with the all the prongs. I currently have a shared prong set wedding band (5x .15ct diamonds) that I have loosened the diamonds from several times the 5 1/2 years I''ve had it. I''ve loosened them so much so that I just didn''t wear it for a while.

I am looking for a wedding set that I can wear everyday and not be worried about. Oh, it would be in 14kt white gold - can''t get the platinum on the budget I have.

Anyone that has a setting like this -- I would like to know how it really is for everyday.

The diamonds don''t go all the way around the shank, do they? If they don''t, then I wouldn''t be concerned about the diamonds/prongs scratching your children. It seems the bigger concern would be the center stone since it sits up a bit and may be more likely to be in contact with your little ones. . . that said, I have two young children and they''ve never been scratched by my diamond. . .

The set you picked out is really pretty. If you like it, but think it wouldn''t be appropriate for work, then how about purchasing a simple band to wear while working?

Man, that setting you posted is so beautiful.

I have the Jaffe set similar to this, where the diamonds are 2 pointers, bead set, and the beads are shared by neighboring diamonds. I find the diamonds to be set very nicely and feel no worries whatsoever for wearing them daily. I love them!
