Shared prong setting - how safe is it?

A few months ago I bought a shared prong half eternity. I loved it. But after only 2 months of gentle wear, 2-3 stones were already loose. I sent it back to the PS vendor, who is fixing it at no cost.

But now I'm really nervous at the thought of wearing it and stones becoming loose again. Is this the fate of the common prong setting? Will I always be getting prongs tightened? There is a shortage of qualified jewelers where I live, so I really have to know!

I can get an entirely different ring - more secure - as long as I upgrade with the same vendor.

What are your thoughts?

That seems odd that you are having to have it tightened already. Maybe they werent quite tight enough to begin with
and this will fix it for a while. I dont think most people have that problem with a shared prong band. I have a 5 stone
shared prong that I have been wearing for 1.5 years with no problem but it is in plat.

ditto - is your ring gold?

gold prongs need to be bent further than the 'desired' position so that when they 'snap back' they settle into the correct placement around the diamonds. I'm thinking perhaps the bench may have made a judgment error in how much further than necessary to bend the prong, and erred too conservatively on the looser side - was it tight after you got it back? Or you could be rougher on your rings than you might expect?

Was the ring made in your size, or adjusted?
Likely it was made to size, given the style- but size adjustment is a common reason people experience loosening stones.....

The ring is 14k WG. I haven't gotten it back yet because I haven't decided if I'm keeping it or upgrading.

I don't think I was rough on that particular ring... I mostly only wore it to go out, and I'm a SAHM so that's not too often. ;)

It was made to size and fit great so it wasn't adjusted.

I had my shared prong setting sized down an entire size and have worn it for 8 months... not a single problem yet. I do go everyother month to have my ring tightened and prongs checked... and I take it off for the gym, cleaning, gardening, etc.
