Setting with opening under diamond?

Do settings with a bit of an opening under the diamond result in more light return?
Or is there no difference between such a setting and a closed bottom like a tiffany 6 prong setting?
I''m not sure if I''m being clear here. But I read that certain cuts look better if light can enter through the bottom part of the diamond?

I am not sure if it returns better light at all, but I read on one other thread that if the cut is good the setting of the diamond shouldn''t inhibit the sparkle any. My diamond is set pretty high and I can see the bottom of the diamond which is fun because you can see it shine from all angles, so from that standpoint, I prefer it. Just my opinion and little info that I have.

There is a possability for light coming from the side to create some good fire in slightly leaky diamonds (round) and very leaky cuts of all types can appear brighter in open settings - it is more the side than the back though.

in the sides - gallery of the diamond, some diamonds can be helped by having light being able to enter the pavillion.... but the hole at the *bottom* I think is just for cleaning because if you think about it, that hole is pressed against your finger and unless your skin glows, it''s going to get nothing but shadow and reflection of pink skin from that direction. I''m putting metal under my stone but keeping two sides bare and the other two half bare. I want light coming in from the gallery but I also want it reflected back up at he stone and not just onto my finger.

I''d bet *all* diamonds benefit from light entering the pavillion... I just don''t know if you''d notice it or be able to tell the difference in some LOL

I wrapped tinfoil around the bottom of my diamond and did a few things with it and outside inthe sun it still looked like it sparkled the same but it lost its luminescent quality... and inside when I did the rainbow on the wall thing, there were the same quantity of rainbows but they were more intense, sharper, and brighter (not a lot but noticbly) with the foil on the back. So my vote was yes with reflective surface and no with closed gallery.
