Hello! I''ve been lurking around these forums for a couple of weeks now...to all you regulars, thanks for the tons of useful information! I''m starting to zero in on the type of e-ring I''d like to get for my GF, and would like to get a few opinions.

While the ring will be a surprise, I know she loves sapphires, so I''d like to get her a ring with a 1ct RB diamond with sapphire sidestones.

I saw this Vatche setting in person today, and thought it was great. It has pear-shaped diamond sides, but could be set with sapphires instead (btw, does anybody know about the pricing on these Vatche settings w/ sapphires...with the side diamonds, the price rises steeply with center-stone size...anyone know how much just the bare setting would go for?)

Two questions: how will the side sapphires affect the ''perceived'' color of the diamond...ie, will a yellower colored diamond be MORE or LESS noticable next to the sapphires, compared to a solitaire setting?

Also, the setting is a ''knife-edge''. My GF doesnt wear much jewelery, and I''m worried about it being too uncomfortable. I tried it on my own finger, and because it is so slender, it felt just fine...but I dont know if it becomes less comfortable with extended wear...anybody have a setting like this?

Thanks for any help! Sean

I would not worry about the knife-edge - the name sounds much more dangerous than it is

But Vatche settings come with sidestones incorporated, so I do not know if you could order one with sapphires. Of course, you could always have a close replica made just a nice and with sapphires. Unless I am wrong about the sidestones, than this is one thing to ask the seller about.

Vatche does make settings with colored sidestones - but only with rounds, as far as I know and their website shows.

The question about diamond color next to sapphires has definitely cam up before on pricescope (you may find soime older posts on the debate) but with no definitive conclusion, as far as I remember. Maybe this time

Here is a link to Patty's beautiful 3stone ring w/ sapphires.

My original engagement ring was a round brilliant with two sapphire pears and a knife edge setting. Don't worry about it. The sapphires won't affect the color of the stone and might even offset some yellow if you have a lower color. It will be gorgeous.

Hi Sean ~ beautiful setting and I think it would be stunning w/ sapphire sidestones (but, I'm partial to sapphires or anything blue so I am biased). I was considering the Vatche 3-stone truffle w/ sapphire sidestones and spoke with a local jeweler about it ~ he gave me a price of approximately $2500 for the setting & sapphires. I have no idea how that compares because I decided against a 3-stone soon after and did no comparison shopping. But, apparently it can be done (although... I was looking at getting round sidestones... so I can't say definitively you won't have any problems since you are wanting pear sidestones... hmmm...).

Blue Nile has some nice settings with sapphire sidestones without the knife-edge band. Here's the link to one with princess sapphires:

and here's one with pear sapphires

love love love the combo! good luck with your search and let us know how it turns out.

Thanks, folks!

I'm less worried now about the knife-edge setting, and if the Vatche setting turns out to be too big a chunk of change, then the Blue-Nile version might be a good backup (or another similar setting...anybody seen these other places?) I also looked at the 3 round stone setting, which I also liked very much...it might still be an option.

Anyway, I guess I'll go ahead and contact one of the vendors on here about getting this put together. Thanks again.
