I managed to keep the mahoosive blue-green Tourmaline that Jeff White has cut for me, and it is now in the setting queue for when I come off the Ban Island! :lol-2:

It is nearly 40ct at 39.82ct, 21.24 x 15.84 mm (no depth, sorry)!!! o_O

As it is my most expensive and the biggest CS to date, naturally I would like to make it as wearable as possible, and that means a changeable piece.

Therefore, for a bit of fun, please suggest design inspirations, and the brief is a changeable piece that can be worn:

- Ring or Pendant
- Ring or Brooch
- Pendant or Brooch
- All three - ring, pendant or brooch (which is the the Holy Grail)

Currently, the design inspiration for All Three (ring, pendant or brooch) is for a ballerina style setting set at 45deg, and the ring will be worn on my chubby middle left hand finger which is Size 11.25 US!

Have a guess which of these 4 inspiration rings is my current favourite (I have saved it for years). ;)2

Ringdant should definitely be doable. Hopefully, the bench I normally use can add a brooch setting.

I am likely to use LGDs in the setting to bring down the cost, providing the bench can source them for me.

Looking forward to your design ideas, and thanks in advance.

Oh what fun, @dk168 . I love ballerina settings!
I am going wild just imagining…
If you are using LGD for the surrounding stones, would you also be able to include some coloured ones, too?
I have no idea which of th4 four would be your favourite but I guess it is not the pendant? Just including some more photos for your consideration.

I think the first two are pretty because there is a mix of shapes and lengths. The third one has a bit of a high-low effect which I like. The fourth one has nice texture. It gives me a fluffy tulle feeling.

@Crimson diamonds only with the Tourmaline as I found multi-CSs difficult to wear as I normally wear very colourful multi-coloured tops and don't want to clash, if you know what I mean.

And thanks for your setting inspirations - you are right, not the pendant!

DK :))

Yum!

I like the ballerina settings without the halo of little round diamonds best, personally.

I'm also wondering if it would be possible for the diamond halo to somehow be removable. The tourmaline itself in a simple, no diamond setting would also be showy and wonderful, for more everyday occasions.

Anyway, can't wait to see what you do with it!

Another thought is to have four bails instead of one. That way it could be worn both vertically and horizontally as a pendant, depending on which two bails are used. Or as a bracelet, with all four bails used and two bracelet chains. Considering its size, possibly more suited for a bracelet than a ring? I don't know, just a thought there.

You could also see it when you wear it if you added an extra long chain as another option.

So many options!

ETA: A brooch worries me a bit. I'd be afraid it would leave holes in my clothes, though I've never heard anyone say that before. ?

I’m guessing you like the second ring best? Haha that’s based on what I’ve seen of your other rings!

My favourite is the first ring and that’s probably obvious based on what I own!

Gorgeous stone!!!!!

I vote for all 3! Ring, brooch and pendant!!!!! I’ve been discovering the joys of pendants lately and lil sis swears by brooches!

Indeed the second ring is my favourite - the one with a halo of small round stones right next to the central CS! :lol-2:

When I go out for dressier events, I like to wear something around my neck.

Being Plus Size with a chunky neck, small dainty designs do not suit me.

That's why I prefer to wear pearl necklaces and large pendants on chains at least 1.5mm wide.

This Tourmaline will make an excellent pendant for me.

Too big for everyday occasions even on its own - it is bigger than the Krupp! :lol-2:

Thanks for the suggestions!

Not keen on the idea of wearing it East-West as a pendant, not for a ballerina setting that I have in mind.

The bracelet idea is great, however, I decided some time ago to have diamonds only bracelets and bangles, unless it is a grand Tutti Frutti bracelet. :lol-2:

Would you ever have occasion, or consider it appropriate, to wear a tiara? Of course, you may think this would be way OTT. But a monster, and beautifully coloured, stone like that deserves a grand setting. It could be made demountable, for use as a pendant or brooch. Even if you never wore it as a tiara, it would be a very cool family heirloom.

Sadly, no - very tempted though and I thought about the possibility. However, the chances of wearing a tiara is zilch!

I bought a couple of costume tiaras to wear as part of a costume to celebrate King Charles' Coronation which happened during a weekend-long convention.

If I were to wear a tiara, it would be an all-diamond/colourless CS piece.

It will not be a family heirloom piece as I have no family to pass down - most likely to be given to a dear friend or sold for the funds to be donated to the charitable causes I support.

I believe this whopper is big enough to be set in a "Bird on a Rock" pendant as seen on Tiffany's website:

They have pendants too:

It won't work as a ring though.

Instead of a bird, I would add my personal touch and have a cat and a dog instead.

Ooooh I love that idea. Do that! A ring would be borderline impractical at that size of a gem anyway.

Yup, that's my thinking too!

I love that!!!! Lemming activated

I like this line drawing of a cat and a dog, and I would probably add a paved diamond heart in the middle of their paws:

If you wanted, it could be made to work - the bird/cat/dog would have to be a part of the pendant attachment, and not a part of the ring itself; and you could have the stone haloed (I like the idea of a step cut halo, personally, in a similar vein to how @lulu_ma set her mom’s ring) which is what converts to a ring. So as a pendant it would look like an animal perched upon a haloed tourmaline; and the ring part would be just the haloed tourmaline.

Though I echo others in saying I think I would personally keep this as a convertible pendant/brooch instead; with the animal permanently attached to the stone!

As another aside - I personally think a cat would be the perfect animal; something so sinuous and sexy about a cat which goes so well with the bluey green stone!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this idea!

Absolutely loooooooove the bird on a ruck idea!!!!

Is that what you’re likely to go with? It’s fabulous!

Yes as I truly believe it is too big as a ring.

@dk168 I’m so pleased you were able to keep the stone - it is stunning

Instead of a paved diamond heart in the middle, I may have a pink red heart instead. most likely to be a pink red stone of some sort, which can be synthetic/lab grown.

I am determined to have an Emerald ring in a ballerina setting, and the Emerald that Jeff W is cutting for me will fit the bill, and could even be a ringdant if it is big enough.

Here is the rough, the big one in top left, which should cut to 2.4 to 3.8ct in emerald cut:
