Hi,

Thanks to the awesome members here, I was able to purchase a great center stone from Whiteflash which I am thrilled with (2.17c round expert selection). BUT, now I need a setting.

My GF loves this one we saw at DeBeers

http://www.debeers.com/design-collections/db-classic/jewellery/j1ex02b02p/db-classic-pave-solitaire-ring

I like that it is 1.4MM wide (she is very small and wears a size 4.25) and the simple, yet classic design. She also likes how the diamonds are inset in the band.

I am 99% sure that DeBeers wont sell the setting without also selling the center stone, so does anyone have any ideas on where to find a similar setting?

Thanks so much, everyone.

Hi KennyPowers! :wavey:

I am with you!! DeBeers makes some wonderful settings for their diamonds! My e-ring is DeBeers-inspired too. We wound up getting mine custom made because we couldn't find anything similar. Custom is always an option.

I'm not an expert, so I can't think of a designer off the top of my head who makes something like this, but maybe check out some of the designers at http://www.PearlmansJewelers.com . You have to sift, but maybe you can find something there. You can also check out http://www.victorcanera.com . In the meantime, maybe one of out expert will chime in with some ideas for you.

Please keep us posted!! :appl:

What is your budget? Many vendors can make that ring but prices will be all over the place so it helps if you tell us your budget and we can direct you to the best possible vendor.

id say up to mayyyybeeeee 3k, but id like to stay under that. I would like to use white gold as well if platinum is far more expensive, but would also consider platinum

thanks guys. and to the other comment, ill check those sites, thanks!

The Vatche Caroline is similar if you wanted to take a look at that one :-)

Edit: MURGH never mind, I found the caroline pave one and the pave is totally different on the shank.

sorry!

will keep looking.

Forward that picture to Victor, Erica and ERD and ask for a quote from all 3;

Erica;

And ERD;

And possibly also Brian Gavin who I think will be the cheapest of the lot;

http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/custom-design/customized-jewelry/

All 4 do better looking prongs that the original too btw!!!

Other than that I agree with Daisy, it might be cheaper and easier to ask Whiteflash to custom modify one of their designs for you to make it look like that ring.

This is beautiful and looks very much like De beers one your GF likes. ACA mellees in the shank as well. WF can set your diamond. Many PSers prefer to get the stone and setting at one place. Ask them to do claw prongs though instead of the ones in the main photos. There are pix of the Elena with claw prongs down the bottom of the page.

Kenny, your 2.17 will be fabulous! I like this setting that Daisyoz put in her post. It looks similar to the DeBeers one and is extra blingy. Plus having WF set the stone they sold you is always a good idea. Can't wait to see the finished ring!

If you want to keep it under 3k I would contact Engagement Rings Direct, White Flash, Love Affair Diamonds and Jewels by Grace. JbG actually made a very similar setting for me in rose gold but with a different head. I think any of those vendors would be under your budget and would be beautiful!

everyone, thank you so much for the feedback. amazing suggestions, and all these vendors look to do outstanding work!

right now, looks like the alaria setting is the frontrunner (modified for round).

I have reached out to victor canera and will update everyone with how it goes....

question, what material should I go with with this stone (one I purchased)? Platinum or wg?

Platinum all the way

If you are going with Victor, I am not sure he even does stuff in white gold.

Another vote for platinum. It's the same material all the way through, and therefore doesn't need to be plated (and maintained by "re-dipping") in rhodium like white gold. It's also a sturdier metal for prongs, which is critical for security of the stones. In fact, many jewelers whose customers request white gold will still gently suggest a basket and prongs (head) in platinum anyway.

thanks, sounds like platinum is the way to go

now I am talking to ERD, who seems to think they can make a setting that fits what I am looking for (very similar to classic DB pave')

thing im nervous about is that I would have to send them my diamond, which I got from WF who is local to me.

should I be nervous about this? I cant help but be afraid it could be swapped out or something else bad could happen to it.

logically I know ERD is legit, but it still scares me :(

any experiences or feedback? should I not worry? the diamond does have the AGS number etched into it per the certificate, so I suppose that's always a check (assuming I could see this when its set)

I just sent ERD three diamonds. Very easy mailing process through FedEx. They email you the paperwork. They are trustworthy and are not going to swap your stone. Their business rests on their reputation and honesty.

Oh hi fellow Texan! :wavey:

I would not be nervous about sending your diamond. I have shipped jewelry here and there over the years and never lost anything. I am sure they will get you a label to send it fully insured on whatever carrier they use.

This helps guys, thanks. It's scary sending something so expensive!

Now another thing has come up....wf is now saying they can probably do it also, when I informed them I was gojng to use another vendor for my custom build.

Any reason to think the quality or design will be better from one or the other? Wf and erd that is?

Both have had awesome communication so far, but no work has been started yet....really undecided as both seem great.

Sent my wife's diamond to Chris at ERD to make a halo setting. Smooth dealings all the way. Great communication and excellent workmanship. Best of luck.

I don't think Victor will take outside stones!

Edit: I sent my stone to ERD. Also, you have a SI stone with a grading report so you can compare the stone you get back to the clarity map!

Great feedback, thx!

I am getting a good vibe form erd, so I think I'm gojng to go for it!

Kenny
ERD will do a great job for you, you have no worries about the right diamond ending up in your ring.
Also, saw your diamond on the WF site, the girdle of the stone has been laser engraved with the AGSL number. Just ask Chris or who ever you are working with at ERD to turn the stone so that the engraved part is between the prongs, this way you can see it when its finished. They can also take a closeup picture for you. You will be able to see it yourself with a powerful loupe.

Hi Kenny,

My girlfriend is interested in the same DB Classic Pave Solitaire ring and I was wondering how your purchase went for you and if you had any suggestions? I will also likely get my stone through whiteflash or James Allen.
