I have found the diamond, a RBC, and now it needs to be set. I really want a pave band (is "band" the right term)? And I have no idea about prongs. I definitely don't want the diamond to be raised up, like the Tiffany setting. What kind of setting should I be going with?

And for a pave band, I wanted to have it done so that the metal in between the little stones isn't showing...I have a friend that just got an E-ring and on the band they used big prongs to set each little pave diamond and its so much metal showing. So basically I just need some help on terminology here to translate to a professional what exactly I want! Thanks!

Oh, and just another though - since I want pave work done, should I be sending it to Leon or someone else that does it by hand?

a handmade pave setting will show less metal than a CAD/cast setting. There are some good CAD/cast settings that, while not comparable to a handmade setting, are very nice and don't have the 'bulky prong' appearance. It just depends on what your preferences and budget are.

I searched high and low for something that that didn't have the diamond sit up too high... Ultimately, I couldn't find anything I liked, so I designed one with the help of briangavindiamonds.com ( BGD ).
If you go with a cathedral band/setting, it will allow your diamond to sit partially in the band. Look at the 3rd picture in the link. You'll notice the extra metal height at the top before the pave starts. That is the cathedral I had your same concerns when I designed my, now fiance's, ring.

Those pictures are in macro mode so it looks like the metal is very noticeable. In her hand you can barely see the metal.
The square shank at the bottom a called a Euro Shank. It's very helpful for stopping the ring from spinning.

I took these pictures, some in macro mode, other in regular mode.

These are pictures on her hand in regular mode.

Hope this helps!

Good Luck on your quest!
