My FH and I recently picked out a stone for an engagement ring (he wanted me to come with him to see what I liked). We chose a 1.00 carat, princess cut stone, G color, SI1 clarity with Excellent cut grade and excellent symmetry and excellent polish per GIA certificate. It is a lovely stone. The setting that I fell in love with is a twist, criss-cross, split shank with diamonds along the shank and under the prongs almost like enhancers. I really love this setting and we are going to have our jeweler whom we trust make the setting in 18k white gold. There are a few adjustments that we want as well instead of pave, have the diamonds more shared-prong, channel set. It has a bit more luster I think. I am having trouble uploading the picture but here is a link to the setting.

That setting is gorgeous! I personally dont think I would change it. Have you seen work done by your jeweler?
Are you absolutley sure that he can do this level of work and get it right? Ask to see samples of work that he
has done with the shared prongs with small stones. Is he going to do CADS for you? Can you post the cads
when you get them? I just think you need to make sure up front that your jeweler can do this style of ring
and do it right.

Its truly a lovely setting!

I think you''d lose the flowiness of the design if you use a channel setting. You might want to poke around some the the PS vendors'' designs to find a a similar design, but with channel-set sides, to get a better idea of what your ring would look like.

very beautiful design.

Thank You, It''s so unique and complimentary to a princess stone I think. My jeweler is one of the most reputable and recognized jewelers in southern massachusetts. I have friends and family members who have had custom work done by them with complexity that superceeds this setting. When I showed them pictures of it, they aboslutely said that they could do this setting. The reason I like the shared-prong is because of the sleekness and luster it gives off, pave, to me personally has a very antique feel to it, which although beautiful in it''s own right, isn''t my taste. There is a setting very similar in the store that has shared-prong channel like shank and that''s why I knew it would work. I''m not sure what CAD''s are?

Okay I just googled CAD''s and I think that is a great tool that will help with my setting! I''m going to ask my jeweler if they will be using it.
