So I''m getting a 3ct princess for my girl. I always thought bigger was better but I just saw a ring that was 1.96 and thought it looked big a gaudy. I don''t know what her ring size was though. My girls is 7. She wants a solitaire. Is there a certain type that maybe makes it sit lower, so it''s not protruding out? And if there is something like this, does it take away from the size of the stone?

Wow, a Three carat rock! what''s not to love! I like the "lucida/x prong" look for a stone that size, but it really depends on her personal style. Does she like "chunky" peices or more thin delecate looking jewelry? Do you have a budget for the setting?

WOW !

3 Carats!!! Amazing. A lady at my office has a 2 carat RB and I think that is huge. I wonder if I''ve ever seen a 3 c princess? I don''t think I have. I have a size 7 finger and I''m not sure I could pull that off. Please post pics when you get it set!

Researcher has a substantial princess set in a W-prong from whiteflash, it is one of my all-time favorite princess settings. Try searching for it. This is what I would get.

You also might consider a V-prong peg-head solitaire setting to emphasize the square shape. And then figure out if your girl prefers chunkier/more substantial settings or would like a thinner band.

She''s talked about wanting a thin band and there is no budget. Settings seem so cheap after the diamond! A WF rep recommended this ONE but I can''t really tell if it looks like it''s holding the rock close to the finger.

I like that Legato sleek line setting. I have the same ring size and stone as your fiancee and it doesn't look gaudy IMO.

The culet is about 1 mm from touching my hand on my ring (if that?) so it's set very very low but is a basket setting. Good luck!

Yes to the lucida/x prong

Substantial enough ring to hold up that size of rock!

The Legato Sleek Line would be stunning with that Princess!

OK, here''s a link to a page with princesses in WF''s W-prong, including researcher''s stone which should be similar in size to yours. I love how fluidly the W cups the princess...

WF W-prongs

Compared to other cuts, princesses are generally fairly deep stones, so a 3 carat princess will have quite a substantial "belly" to it, so any way you set it, it will sit up higher on her hand by sheer necessity than a 3 carat diamond of nearly any other cut. That said, you could go with a setting like the Tiffany lucida style that is more low-profile, and will take some of the emphasis off the height. I would advise you to try to choose a setting where the band bridges or flows up to meet the stone, like a cathedral setting, rather than a more traditional solitaire where the band is flat against the finger - that detail will also help create a sort of optical illusion that will de-emphasize the height of the ring setting.

I''ll throw in another vote for WF''s W prong. Once you get it set PLEASE come back and post pics - I''m sure all of us would love to see it!
