Hi!

Is there any other Europeans hang out here? I'm from Sweden and will send my loose diamond to David Klass in California for a custom setting. Has anybody done the same? Will David Klass have to pay a lot in duty and fees when receiving it?

Please help a girl out! All answers are appreciated!

Latest CAD just for fun :D

I personally don't have any experience doing this from Sweden, but I'd encourage you to look into the specific restrictions regarding loose diamonds. Several EU countries prohibit this. It might be easier to have David create a shipping label for you. I think you have to register a broker account with FedEx and insurance is very limited for individuals . David has more options as a pro.

@Maisie is in Europe, though not sure it’s Sweden. She’s sent things to DK a few times, I believe, and can probably chime in with her experience. But off hand, I believe several folks in Europe have sent things to/from DK. Not sure he has duties to pay on the inbound items, but the recipients/customers in other countries sometimes do have VAT, duties, etc. to cover when they receive their items.

Thank you for your answers! I have sent DK an email asking him these questions too.
We are getting married in New York and he will send the rings to our hotel so he won't be sending the rings back to Sweden.

Hopefully @Maisie can help out :rolleyes2:

Congrats on your upcoming wedding!

How much earlier will you arrive in NYC before the wedding. You can overnight the diamond to him once in the US and he can probably return it back to you within a day or two. Maybe an option to consider.

Maybe that's an option but we won't have many days. Arriving on Saturday or Sunday and the wedding's at Thursday.

Thanks!

That’s a sufficient number of days imo, but I would check with DK if it is doable.

Theoretically, you can have the shipping label in advance. Ship the stone the day you arrive, let’s say Sunday. DK sets the stone on Tuesday and you have it Wed.

No help on mailing from Europe, but some notes on your setting (you did not ask, so ignore if you like).
1) To improve the side view, I would ask DK to tilt the halo stone 20 degrees or so off of level (he'll know what I mean). That will make the side more diamond and less metal. It also adds interest from more angles.

2) The collar is above the wedding band when they are static, but the rings will move on your hand. So, the diamonds of the band will rub on the collar. If it was me, I'd raise the collar quite a bit more.

3) If you intend to wear these together, you may want to talk with DK about that. If I'm reading the CAD correctly, the two rings will rub against the prongs (and maybe girdles of the side stones). The girdles are easy by making the prongs a bit more outside the diamonds. But the prongs rubbing is less easy to manage. You can use a sacrificial spacer. Or, you can widen the shank below the diamonds to the two bands actually are rubbing on the shank below the prongs of the side stones.

Thank you for giving me some thoughts!

1.) Didn't think about it before but I think I would like that a lot! Will tell him to make that change.

2.) Sounds good! I will ask about that too.

3.) I'm not really sure what you mean. I kind of wanted the prongs quite close to each other so that you can see the curve of each diamond. See picture below. I guess what you are saying is that it's not very durable? And if I want that design i should get a thin spacer? I think DK know i'm wearing them together but I should probably ask him about this too. Already waiting for him to make the melee a little bit bigger.

Maybe I should start another tread just get some help and notes about the rings :) I appreciate it.

With respect to number #3, DK will do what you ask him to do. As RS commented, these rings will rub together and the girdles from one ring
will eat into the metal of the other ring. You will need a small spacer to keep the rings from eating into each other.

This. You 100% need a spacer if you are wearing them together.

When I’ve sent stones to DK before he has not paid any duties when they arrive. I use Fedex but they go without insurance. They usually arrive in about 3/4 days from England. Hope that helps :))
