I am in the market for an engagement ring. I am currently overseas and do not have access to jewelry stores. Due to that my shopping will have to be done online. I was planning on shopping when i returned to the US but i will only have a 2 day window before i have to leave again and i need to have the ring before I leave the US again before those 2 days are up. The reason for only a 2 day window is because I have been away from my fiancee for over a year and i dont think ill be able to sneak some extra time for ring shopping without her asking questions. and also because i would like to go be with her asap after i return.
well here are the facts:
1- my budget is 2000 give or take 200 dollars or so.
2- I figured my smartest bet would be to get a solitaire style ring and focus my budget on the diamond itself. thats why i stayed away from 3 stone rings and the fancier style settings.
3- my fiancee has never really had anything of much value like an engagement ring so I want to get her the best possible ring i could afford. Thats why my decision has been based on finding the best quality diamond instead of just the biggest for my budget. I think she would really treasure something like that.
4- after reading the many forums here i went to whiteflash and selected this diamond with this setting.

5- i selected the 4 prong solitaire setting after reading many opinions that said that size diamond would stand out more in a 4 prong setting over a 6 and also beacuse she is a simple style girl. I know she wouldnt mind something extravagent but she will definitely appreciate the kind of ring i can afford right now. anyways i figured this would also help out when anniversary time comes around and i can afford more. that way she would have more options for upgrades.
6- would that diamond look ok on this setting or should i stick with the 4 prong? Id cough up the extra money if it would look ok.

Im just pretty much asking if my selections seem ok and for peoples advice and opinions.
thanks for your time. sorry if i wrote too much. have a great one and keep giving out great advice. These forums are great for learning about diamonds!
Thanks!!!

Hi Chaco and welcome!

You have selected a super diamond and the setting is lovely too, I think you did great! Just check the diamond is eyeclean to your standards and you should be set. In fact a friend purchased a top cut diamond of similar size in an identical setting ( although it was platinum the style was the same) and it is a gorgeous look!

I would vote that you go down in color and get a bigger diamond. I did like the setting.

I think the OP wants a high colour Tara, but lowering the colour to get a larger diamond is certainly an option.

Yes, that stone will look beautiful in that setting (actually it will look beautiful in either setting).
Pick the one you like best or the one you think your GF will like best. I have to say the second
setting definitly has more personality than the first. If it were for me, I would pick the second
setting.

Your stone looks beautiful, sure to be a great sparkler! I would also make sure that it is eye clean as well. The great thing about whiteflash is that they will pull it out and look for you. I like the second
setting better as well, it makes you look a little more unique than the classic mounting. I would definitely go for that one.

Thanks for the help everyone! I like the second setting more than the traditional one. My girlfriend will definitely like that one more too. My only concern was if the size diamond I chose would look alright with that second setting? Does anyone have any pics or links to a ring with that size diamond with a similar setting?
Thanks!!!!

If you do like that stone I''d put it on hold really quickly.

I think it would look lovely in either setting. The second setting has more style but it also has more metal to cover the sides of the stone.

This is more expensive setting but I like Fine Line Setting which has a narrowing of the band as it gets closer to the stone. Less metal around the diamond.

Any of these classic settings will look nice because the focus will be on the beautifully cut stone.

Thanks for the advice and suggestion! :O)
