I have been looking to reset my ering and have fallen in love with this split shank halo from Ritani.

I instead of a pear I will have it custom made for a marquis. I am concerned about the overall look of the ring because my stone is a L. Will a bezel setting with pave so close intensify the color? Will it look funny? Should I go with yellow gold? I have gotten some quotes, and one jeweler expressed concern with the overall look b/c of the color. Any and all opinions are welcome.

The stone faces up quite white, but it is an L. I will try and post some pics that show alot of color.

This is the most color I could produce. Its sitting about 5 inches under a lightbulb.

I say who cares if you can see the color or not! IMO color issues are passe and the more we embrace our warm stones with pride the more the rest of the world will catch up ;)

Hi Ponderer-

That is a very pretty stone. Would you ever think to do yellow diamonds, or pink diamonds in the halo, and do yellow gold on the halo portion? It would make your stone look more white, if that is what you want. I know I had some of the same concerns on a stone I was looking at purchasing that was a ''N''. Someone here sent me a link to the www.faycullen site, and showed me that many vintage stones were more yellow, and set with whiter pave. They are very pretty.

If it bothers you, you may want to find another setting. I personally decided not to go that route, but there was more to it than that.

oops, try www.faycullen.com

That is a gorgeous setting. As soon as I saw it, I thought it would look really nice if the halo part was pink diamonds in pink gold, with the shank in white gold or platinum with white diamonds. The pink halo will create a band of contrast between the center stoner and the whiter melee, and I just love the way pink gold and white metal look mixed together.

Thanks for the opinions everyone.

I love my stone and I love warmer colored diamonds. I do want to embrace the color, not necessarily make it look whiter, but I dont want it to look strange. I like the idea of colored diamonds, but am afraid of the expense. This custom setting is going to cost more than the diamond originally cost and thats without fancy colored diamonds.

I just want the look to blend well. Can you get melee in lower colors like I or J?

The diamond has a lot of sentimental value, my DH picked it out himself and gave it to me on my 18th birthday. I want to find a new and final home for the stone now that I am older, wiser, and know how to care for my jewelry!

Yes, you can get lower coloe melee - mine is H-I-J melee, and we also looked at a Ritani ring from Pearlmans and he told us that we could specify the color of the melee. If I were you, I would definitely want at least J colored melee. Your stone is beautiful BTW!

You could always do pink or yellow sapphires, which would be brighter than most diamonds and much, much more affordable.

Wink can get lower (lower than J) colored melee! I really wanted like M melee for my stone because J melee is just still too white IMO for it... but I couldn't find H&A melee below a J which left me with a choice of color or spahkle LOL
