My fiance and I just noticed there are some pretty deep scratches on her new e-ring, and it's only a week old! Is this normal for a platinum ring? I've heard it is normal, but I didn't realize it would be that easy to get these deep scratches. If the ring gets regular polishes, does that mean the ring will get thinner and thinner? Or is it true that polishing platinum will not remove metal, but only move metal around? We sure hope the ring doesn't get thinner and thinner after each polish!

yes- it just moves around and rarley looses weight - unless - you try polishing it often = no more ring!

Give it 6 months and you will not see the new scratches for the newste ones :naughty:
Then it will have a patina

From reading on PS, I have learned that it depends on the alloy used as to how resistant to scratches a platinum item will be. The platinum/ruthenium combination is a little harder and more scratch resistant than 95 plat/5 iridium. Both Tiffany and Leon Mege use the plat/ruthenium alloy. I can attest to this personally because I have rings from both that look barely scratched whereas my sister-in-law's 95 plat/5 iridium ring was gray looking from all the scratches after a year. But all that said, you really have to be careful how you grab things when you have on nice rings. I'm really as careful as possible and conscious about my rings.
