A little help please....I am interested in purchasing a Scott Kay Eternity band, but I have some concerns. The local jeweler has quoted me a price of $9k +tax for a 12mm Scott Kay Paltnium 'Eternity' band (see attached picture).

(12) 0.1 ct princess cut diamonds
(2) rows of small round diamonds around entire band
Total Weight: 2.35 ct.

They told me that the diamonds would be at least af 'F' color and vvs1 clarity. The band comes with the diamonds set from Scott Kay, so I don't have the option of selecting my own diamonds, which is fine as long as they are of the quality promised. I've asked that they provide some type of cert. upon purchasing, which they have agreed to.

It seems like a lot of money considering the diamonds are all very small. So how do I know what kind of deal I'm getting? What would be a fair amount to offer him?

Thanks,

Dan

I think if you priced out the metal and the diamonds individually you''d be sorely disappointed in the markup on their original offer.

I don''t know offhand what you should offer. Maybe half? How stuck are you on Scott Kay? The only way to really negotiate is to be willing to walk!

Rank Amateur,

I''m not totally committed to Scott Kay, but my g/f really likes this ring. If I could find something similar, I would definitely consider it. There are only 3 jewelers in my area that carry his rings, and I''ll be checking out 2 of them tomorrow. I guess I could make an offer and walk if need be, but I want to be fair in my offer.

Dan
