Yes I keep hoping someone will change the system and really teach how to build and justify an argument early. I'd also like to see them teach propositional logic, and the ability to communicate by first understanding the other person's perspective and then tailoring your message so it is more accessible.

Although in practice, not all of this may be feasible....Often there are a lot of great people teaching who just do their best with the limited resources available.

When I was teaching, I did. The parents were appreciative. The students liked it because it wasn't some prechewed crap being served up to them.
