What is the difference between these that justifies the jump in price from 1 versus the other?

18kt gold .22 ctw

18kt gold 4 mm .25 ctw (I know it says 14kt, but still...)

Are the diamonds at Tiffany''s worth the prices?

Side question, if the enagement ring is about 5 or 6mm, will a 3 or 4 mm wedding band be way too much to wear together? Click on the top right picture and they show you these together...

The price difference really isn't about the stones - it's about the Tiffany name.

I have the Tiffany etoile band - it really feels like butter on the finger! The diamonds are really pretty - you can see little arrows in each one of them but I am sure WF's ACA's are just the same. I have never tried on the WF band but really love the quality of the Tiffany piece. My fingers are way too short to combine the etoile ering and etoile wedding band. The shank of my ering is 2 mm and that paired with the etoile band is about as much width as I can stand. Longer fingers could probably accomodate both rings.

I am sure there is some price difference between the 14 kt. gold and the 18 kt. gold but I have no idea how much. I wanted the real deal but others here have gotten the WF scattered band and loved it too. Guess it's just a personal preference thing in terms of the ring and whether or not you want to pay the Tiffany premium. Interestingly enough, I paid closer to the WF price a few years back for the Tiffany ring. Their prices have really gone up!

Cool, thanks for the response. Quick question since you have short fingers like her...your engagement ring is about 2mm and your scattered diamond band is about 3 or 4 mm? What would you say is the typical ''comfortable'' combination of both the engagement ring and the wedding band on one finger, a combined 5-6 mm?

I own the WF band, in 5mm. I took some pics of it with my Vatche X-Prong (in link), just in case the pics would come in handy. (like now)

My X-Prong is about 3.5mm in width on my finger. With both on, it's not uncomfortable for me at all, and I have rather short fingers, size 5.5. But as I said in the thread, I think the 3mm scattered band would have looked best with it. So for me, a 3mm band wth a 5 or 6 mm setting would not bother me, but everyone is different. Does she like width/wide bands?

It's very, very comfortable, and it has held up well. I wear it on my right hand, almost every day, it has taken a lot of knocks/abuse, with no dents and no lost diamonds (in a little over a year). It's in 14K, and I've noticed that has worn off faster than my 18K, but that's the only "negative" I could give it.

Anywho, thought I'd throw this in, in case it helped! Pics are just on the first page.

Yep, cause I think the Tiffany Etoile band is just a hair under 4 mm so that puts me at about 6mm. It's the set that is in my avatar but that picture has been shrunk so it's hard to see! It is comfortable for me although sometimes I think I'd lilke to try a thinner band - like the Tiffany Bezet. It measures 2.6 mm. I tried it on and liked it but at the same time it gets kind of 'lost' under my ering. Ellen is probably right - a 3 mm band would be just right but I really like the Tiffany version that I have. Funny how you can be so picky about 1 mm - in reality I don't know if it would make that big of a difference!

I always thought a thinner set would look better on me because I do have short fingers but interestingly enough, the wider width probably looks better on my finger!

I have the WF 4mm band and love it. It''s very smooth on the inside and the ACAs are gorgeous!

Thanks for the link and the pics, Ellen! Wow, so you are at about 8.5 mm on your finger and that is not a problem for you?

I think the 3 mm band in addition to something similar to the WF half-bezel would be great, but I am worried that it might be too much. She does like wider bands/rings, but I can''t be sure this isn''t too wide. If I got a smaller stone set in the half-bezel ring, the width of the band could be brought down to maybe 4 or 5mm I suppose...

Are you sure that is the style engagement ring she wants? I would hate to get a smaller stone just to accomodate the setting and the band! Or, in the alternative, she could choose a very narrow wedding band to go with the wider ering setting.

Well, she said this is all she wanted!

She wants to wear something subtle - she doesn''t like to get caught up in how big the diamond is, or comparing it against friend''s who are all getting married recently, etc, etc. She loves the simple gold band.

However, I obviously cannot just get her such a basic band, it needs to be a little bit more unique and special - but still stay true to her ''subtle'' style.

So, how far off am I or do you think what I have so far is in the same ballpark of what she prefers?

That''s a good question. She wants a simple gold band. You are looking at an etoile type of ering with a diamond AND a band. I''m not clear as to whether she wants a diamond or not or whether she wants two rings.

A simple solitaire setting paired with a gold wedding band is always a classic look. If you paired the solitaire with an etoile scattered band, it would still be a classic look.

I think at this point you need some more input from her. Does she want a separate diamond ering? If so, does she want it set in a wide gold band setting? These rings are presumably something she would wear everyday and she really needs to like them and feel comfortable wearing them. If you have a Tiffany''s near you, maybe you could take her there to show her some of the different options. You don''t necessarily have to buy there but it is a starting point to narrow down more precisely what she is looking for.

Good luck and let us know what you come up with!

If that is what she actually said she wanted, then that's what I'd get her. I appreciate you wanting to make it a bit more special, but I'm worried it might not be what she would prefer. Some women really do want/prefer simple.

And I echo MGR's question on whether she wants an actual engagement ring also. If you are not sure, maybe it would be best to take her out looking to see what she really likes and feels comfortable with (both in widths and diamondwise).

As for my scattered band and ering, I don't wear those together normally, I just took some pics so other posters could see what the two would look like. I wear a plain 3.5 mm wedding band (which puts me at 7mm total). But no, they were not uncomfortable to me at all.
