Anthony Scaramucci has been removed as White House communications director at the request of White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly, just days after being named to the job, according to two people with knowledge of the decision.
Scaramucci's brief tenure in the role had been marked by turmoil as he feuded publicly with former White House chief of staff Reince Priebus. Scaramucci's arrival at the White House prompted former press secretary Sean Spicer to resign in protest.
The abrupt decision signals that Kelly is moving quickly to assert control over the West Wing, which has been characterized by interpersonal disputes and power struggles during Trump's six months in office.
The retired Marine general, who was sworn in Monday morning, was brought into the White House in the hope that he will bring military-style disciple to Trump's staff. He has been fully empowered by the president to make significant changes to the organization, White House officials and outside advisers said.
Scaramucci was hired to the communications director role by Trump, over the objections of Priebus and other aides. Within days of arriving in the West Wing, Scaramucci publicly accused Priebus of leaking damaging information about him in the media and disparaged him in a profanity-laced interview with the New Yorker.
Priebus, who had long ago lost the confidence of the president, was replaced by Kelly days later.
People in the White House who supported Scaramucci's hiring had viewed his presence in the West Wing, in part, as a tool to hasten the departure of Priebus, according to White House officials. His usefulness had declined significantly in their eyes once that goal was accomplished and in light of his rocky first week on the job.
You have got to be kidding me. I've held temp jobs longer than some of the people in this administration. LOL this is just too funny. where is SNL and Last Week Tonight when you need it????!!!!
Even better is now skanky Scaramucci is going to have to pay the huge tax bill which he was scheming not to do since the beginning of the year! Bahaha.
Seriously though... I don't care for this president and I don't care for his so-called policies. But it appears that his new chief of staff has been given some deference and authority, and might actually stand a chance of reining in this clown car of an administration. And even though that will make life more difficult for the comedians, pundits, and the opposition party... it's would be a good thing for this country if the White House starts behaving in a more traditional manner.
But yes, Scaramucci looked to be a veritable gold mine of late night fodder.
And yes, there is a great deal of irony and hypocrisy in the fact that Scaramucci may have been fired/demoted for emulating the man who hired him in the first place!
Thank you gIrls for making this afternoon so fun!!!! I had to LOL watching TV today. The commentators acting like Kelly is going to completely turn this train wreck around and stop all the insanity. Trump loves all this drama. It's classic reality TV.
I have to admit I was looking forward to all the comedy Scaramucci was going to bring. This clown was definitely a SNL dream. They didn't call him mini Trump for nothing. We all need something to laugh at with this pathetic administration. It was at least taking some of the fear away for a few minutes everyday.
It looks as if his abrupt departure from the White House could end up costing him millions of dollars! Federal law provides a tax break for capital gains sales that are made to when people sell assets to avoid conflicts of interest in their federal jobs. Scaramucci stands to make about $80 million in a sale that he says he made to comply with ethics laws. He can't take advantage of the divestiture break, he'll have to pay about $16 million in taxes that he might otherwise have been able to defer. Of course he'll still net about over $60 million, so I'm not shedding any tears for him! His investment partners might not be too happy about having sold early - for nothing - however.
