I have searched for some info on scar cream here, only a few info, but hoping I can elicit more responses maybe. But I have pretty bad keloid after having two c-sections, and wondered if anyone has tried any good cream that has reduced their keloid. I guess some people just heal differently and this time my new dr. has taken his time to stich me up pretty nicely as to try to avoid this keloid or minimize it. He says that if it is bothersome, they can remove the overgrowth down which I don't want to have to do. Would rather try some home remedy or OTC stuff. Anyone have success with diminishing keloid? if so, what did you use? I was hoping to buy something today. TIA!

I'm sorry you had to put up with scar tissue issue, D&T. I know of no cream that diminishes the appearance of keloids. Some years ago I had a minor op to remove a small sebaceous cyst from my chest. After they took out the stitches, I ended up with a keloid 3 times the size of the removed cyst. I opted for anti-keloidal injections given over the keloid over a few weeks but guess what? The needle puncture marks produced even more keloids! I spoke to the dermatologist about having the keloid cut away but as I had feared, he said there is a risk of creating even larger keloids from such a procedure! So I'm stuck with this one. Sorry if I seem to threadjack but I too would be interested to know the answer..

I as well have nothing to offer but am very interested in knowing if there is anything out there. I got a terrible burn on my forearm two years ago and it left a long scar with keloids on each end of it...it almost looks like a barbell. I''ve been wondering if they can laser it off.

Oh man, so sorry for your keloid issue too, its a pain! and I was told that some people (mostly darker skinned -sorry if this is not PC) people have prominent keloid and maybe hereditary?

so I don't know if anything will work? I don't know if I want to try the OP removal as like you said my fear of even a larger growth

?

DF- you know whats interesting though, I got a raised mole removed from my back a about 12 years ago, and I didn't develop a keloid over it though? so I don't know if it has anything to do with surface removal growth or deeper removal, hope that makes sense?

Unfortunately, there isn''t any 100% cure for keloids. As some have mentioned, it''s possible to have them surgically removed, but many physicians advise against this, as the surgery itself can result in more/worse scars. Some keloids respond to steroid injections, so that''s a possibility... but it isn''t always successful for everyone. One thing I''ve tried for scars (and I think I''m getting improvement from using it) it Vitamin E. You can either take it as a capsule, or purchase Vitamin E oil (which is quite viscous, and what I prefer to use). I just apply a healthy dose on any of my scars at night while I sleep, and put on a lighter coat in the mornings when I remember. Best of luck!!!

Thanks Erinleigh- I''ll check out the Vitamin E Oil

Hi D&T, I hope this is allowed, but I use skincare from Skinactives.com and they offer some actives for keloids. I haven''t tried these myself, but I do swear by everything else from them that I use. Their philosophy is, like you can tell from their name, to sell ''actives'' in their purest form, and then you can build your own products, in different combinations to address all your concerns. And they have a forum that kind of reminds me of PS - except there, everyone is obssessively researching skincare!

If you go to their website and search ''keloids'' in the upper right hand corner, it''ll give you some actives. Hope that helps!

Thank you I will look at them as well and try

I had a bad keloid when I was younger and tried everything under the sun. The only thing that helped at all was having it cut off.

My boyfriend had bumped into something at his old job and it apparently ripped right into his arm. He had to have stitches and then developed a keloid on his arm. He tried all kinds of creams, vitamin E, you name it. Nothing worked. He had to have it cut off as well. But then he got new stitches and while the keloid is gone, there is a red mark on his arm now (2 years later). He has been using something on it and it has been much less noticeable...I''m not sure what it''s called. I''ll have to ask him....

I am not an alternative medicine person, but my daughter got the idea of tea tree oil from Yahoo Answers when she got a keloid from a piercing. It was supposed to make it disappear in 7-10 days or something. It did. Totally. I couldn''t believe it.
I think it was the piercing in her nose. I remember it having an ugly bump beside the stud that she made disappear. (Thank goodness she now has removed the stud, too.)

I urge anyone to be very careful about cutting a keloid off. Very long story short, my poor brother had a ton of keloid scars on his shoulders and chest, underwent a lot of surgeries to cut them out (after creams, lasers and injections did nothing but aggravate them) and they healed into new keloids even bigger than what he began with.

It is extremely unfortunate but there just doesn''t seem to be anything that can help them... although I''d give anything in the world if something could, for my brother''s sake. D&T, there are a lot of silicone products on the market advertised for keloid scars, I guess it can''t hurt to give them a shot but I don''t know anybody who they''ve helped.

Thanks everyone! well I''m going to start with a little more natural remedy to start off with less expensive with the Vitamin E, then I''ll try and work my way up, I really would rather avoid the surgical procedure until I''m done having kids, as I might need another c-section in the future. thank you all for your thoughts and concerns. If you anyone has more to add, please do, I''m sure it will help many others as well.

While you're doing natural and inexpensive, don't forget our miracle with the tea tree oil. Give it a ten days trial as my daughter did! BTW, joflier was able to get some at Walmart's (see thread).

I worked with some plastic surgeons and alot of them have told their patients that it''s more the massaging of the scar tissue with lotion that does more good than the lotion itself. It promotes circulation to the area.

Tea Tree oil works magic for some people with keloids but not for others. I have had 3 keilods all from peircings and tea tree never worked for me to get rid of them and I had to remove the peircings. One still has a very small keloid wich I don''t mind and one has a fairly ugly, but small scar from it.

Tea tree also really drys out your skin so if you are going to try it use on one or two drops at a time.

I''ve tried Mederma and it does help somewhat, but only a little.

I had to have my chest cracked open 4 years ago and I have a huge keloid scar that runs from the center of my chest all the way around to just about my shoulder blade. I tried all of the over the counter stuff, Vitamin E, etc. and nothing worked. 6 months after the surgery I started going to a dermatologist for steroid injections every 6 weeks for a year and it did nothing. The dermatologist told me that keloid scars on the chest/abdomen are the worst to treat for some reason.

I use the silicone scar sheets and they seem to help flatten and smooth any scars I''ve gotten. Now, they didn''t disappear completely but they are definitely improved a bunch.

Thanks for the heads up, 4ever! I guess that is why tea tree oil comes under the heading of, "alternative medicine". It is probably not replicable under all circumstances! I really do appreciate the workings of real science. As long as no one is reporting harmful side effects from tea tree oil applied to the skin, it is probably worth seeing if you are one of the people it works for, however!

i remember a thread a long time ago that addressed the scar problem. i believe a mother used the massage method prescribed by the physician for her child. it seems that the massage is what does the trick. you might do a search for that thread.

eta: that thread is, anybody used mederma from 2007. cehera is the mother. sorry don't know how to link you.

Fantastic Everyone! Well I''m undergoing therapy #1 Vitamin E and lots of massaging

My doctor said cica care silicone gel sheets are good. I''m using them now, but I just started. If they work well, I''ll let you know about it!
