Sarin on my soon to be E-diamond.

I called the jeweler about the two stones he showed me last week.

He read off the Sarin numbers for one, but didn't have them for the other.

He calls this an ideal cut and and AGS-000
Do you guys agree?

When I was in the store, he quoted me $4800 for the ring. $1500 for the platinum Verragio setting similar to this one

and so I guess that leaves $3300 for the stone.

I have an ideal scope coming and will check it with that against some other stones. I want to get a good deal and a great stone for my honey, but this is becoming a quest!


What do you guys think? Good deal?

I was only in there once and then called back to get the numbers from him. Do you think I should try to haggle? Is the first price he quotes the starting point or the real price? Also, will he have a box with a light in it? I plan to present the ring on the beach in the dark!

Well, I believe technically it falls within AGS0 proportion parameters, but it will most likely not be the best performing AGS0 out there. It's probably nice, you should trust your eyes on this. It scores a 2.3 on the cut adviser, which is respectable, but not in the top one or two percent for performance. Weigh that against cost and how you like it in making your decision.

Just for reference, the crown is very steep on this stone. If the pavilion were a little shallower to compensate for it, you might have an amazingly fiery stone...

As for haggling, I have no idea - I suspect that varies greatly from one vendor to another. Run a search here for similar stones and see if his price is good in comparison. Internet pricing such as you find on the PS search engine is usually a little lower than what you'll get at a B&M, but should be within reason.

On the box, um, there's no way for us to know that -ask your vendor!
