My intended has mentioned several times that she likes sapphires. Does anyone have an ering like this and, if so, can you post some pictures? What are your thoughts on this idea and do you have any recommendations on where to purchase it or what setting to use? Are the usual suspects (WF and GOG) good sources for sapphires?

Oops, I posted without doing a search first; my apologies as this ground has been tread on many times before. Still, if anyone has some new thoughts or pictures, I''d welcome them.

I love the idea! I think it is a great alternative. I am pretty sure that either my sidestones or center will be sapphire. It is a unique look that is still classic. James Allen has some nice settings like this, as well as I think Mondera (maybe Angara? Not sure). Or you could get some loose sapphires from a number of good sources and buy a 3 stone setting and go that route. I would check out www.winkjones.com as well, they have some good ones. Hope this helps, can''t wait to see what you end up with!

There are a bunch of people with that type of ring, try searching "diamond sapphire three-stone" or "diamond sapphire 3-stone" and you'll get some. Chrono and SanDiego Lady have gorgeous ones. I have a sapphire center with diamond sides.

As for a source, Wink Jones has been used a lot and people say nothing but good things about him www.winfields.com. He s a jeweler who knows gems and can source them for you. Also, Jeff White, www.whitesgems.com is a cutter beyond compare and will CUT you sapphires to the size-shape-style of cut that you want. I would go with Jeff only because I looooove his cutting techniques and the workhe does has been shown around here and is stunning. Then you can say you had the stones custom made!!! Checkout the Colored Gemstones threads to learn more about sapphires, but that is a whole 'nother education than diamonds! Either of these sources can send the stones to WF or GOG to be set with your diamond.

PS I leither ike sidestones to be 1/4 - 1/3 the size of the center stone for a more subtle look to compliment the center stone OR I like the side stones to be 1/2 the size of the center stone for a true three-stone look.

has she said she wants sapphires in her e-ring? I like sapphires too, love them actually, but wouldn't want them in my engagement ring. If you are 100% she does want them, pleny of settings are out there that have them or can be made to replace diamond sidestone with sapphires.

I love a little color in an e-ring. Mine is not a 3 stone but I do have sapphire accents in mine. Tacori will replace any diamond in their designs with sapphires or rubies. I actually saw the all diamond version of my ring and liked it so much less. If you know she loves sapphires I would go for it. It is fun to have something a little unique.

I did not know that! Very cool. I have had the same experience, played with designs with sapphires and then seen the all diamond ones and was underwhelmed. But MrsS is right, make sure that she would be ok with it in her Ering. I wear a ton of blue, and sapphires is BFs birthstone, but some people like all diamond for erings as it is more "versatile" in their eyes.

If you look in the colored thread, you will find a couple postings of them :)

Thanks for your opinion and advice, and yes, I have searched the colored gemstones forum for some ideas and pictures. I also posted a link to some small blue sapphires that I saw and solicited some opinions of them; however, I''ve received only one response so far. (hint, hint)

Miscka, it is cool huh? They are all made to order so it is not a problem to get something customized. I knew I wanted sapphires from the start but I do agree you need to know 100% that is what she wants. I don''t even wear that much blue but I still love me some sapphires with diamonds

My fiancee''s ring is like that and she LOVES it. I''ve linked a thread below that I started with pictures of the ring and our engagement story. Good luck!

Just something to think about. My Fiancé LOVES sapphires as well, but she didn''t want them to be the focal point of her ring. That said, have you considered a design that uses surprise sapphires? They will add that blue pop, but not overwhelm. If you are absolutely sure that she wants them on top though, go for it. Nice choice either way.

Dave, the setting you seek is, IMO, a timeless, classic three stone look which will stand the test of time. It''s a best seller at Tiffany''s for a reason.

Well baby, baby wants a gold diamond ring
Wants it more than almost any old thing
Well when I get those jelly roll blues
Why, I''d go and get anything in this world for you

Dupree''s Diamond Blues

If I had invested all the money I''ve spent on GD tickets I could probably buy the Hope Diamond.

Gr8 story and beautiful ring! Do you mind if I ask where you got the setting from?
My jeweler had it brought in for me when I told him what I was looking for. I do know for a fact that Abazias has a very similar setting (if not identical). I had originally looked there and was told that Abazias would swap out the side diamonds that come in the setting for side sapphires. They also have a large selection of loose diamonds and are a Pricescope recommended vendor. I''ve linked that setting at Abazias for you below. Give them a look.

I hear ya Dave, I hear ya. I''m sure I''ve personally contributed to one of the boys kids college funds over the years. But it was SO worth it! And of course you know, once in a while, you get shown the light, in the strangest of places if you look at it right..and then, my friend, it''s time to propose! Good luck with your shopping. I think you''ll pick a winner...

Can you post a pic or a link? I'm sorry I can't think of what it looks like off hand

I''m still contributing; Ratdog is rolling into my town in April.

And I''ve already picked a winner cause she''s a summer love in the spring, fall and winter and she can make happy any man alive.
