Sapphire ering vendors

Can anyone recommend any good sapphire ring vendors in the Dallas area? I''m looking for an engagement ring (platinum pave/micropave setting with gemstone) and am having a really hard time finding any local stores that can help me. I am not opposed to buying over the internet, but being a novice and all, I am a little leery of getting a stone or setting that is of poor quality. I have read several of the threads here and they have helped somewhat, but any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Oh sorry, I just reread and realized you were asking for a local store. It might be like finding a needle in a haystack. I think you''ll get a nicer stone by going with gem dealers who really specialize in fine sapphires and other gems. But if you decide to buy locally, just go to the most expensive jewelry stores in town so that you can hopefully see better quality rings.

Thanks for the replies. I am starting to consider online vendors a lot more since it''s so difficult to find anything locally. Any tips on how I can ensure that the stone will fit the setting if I get them from different vendors? Also, any suggestions on how to go about getting the stone mounted? Should I send it somewhere or is that a simple enough job that a run of the mill local jewelry store could do that.

Simplysapphires.com was mentioned as a good sapphire source on a recent post. Regarding setting, someone had a similar question on a recent post.

If you use a jeweller other than the vendor of the stone to set the stone, YOU and NOT the jeweller are responsible for insuring the stone. If it breaks during setting you will not be covered without an insurance policy on the stone.

For that reason, if I am setting the stone I try to do both with the same vendor.
