I was wondering what people's opinions are of alternating gemstone and diamond eternity (or half eternity) bands? I'm after a half eternity ruby and diamond wedding band but feel a bit lost as to how to judge the quality of the rings! I have read the FAQ on coloured gemstones in this forum, but I find a lot of vendors selling these eternity rings have minimal info regarding the rubies. For example I found this on JA which is exactly what I want right down to the milgrain detail: https://www.jamesallen.com/fashion-...-diamond-milgrain-anniversary-ring-item-62477
However, it says in the description that the rubies are "red" but they appear more dark pink to me although not sure if it's the monitor setting or something.

Any help on this matter would be much appreciated!

I don’t think most vendors offer anything more than “natural ruby” on wee size rubies set into eternity rings. The point being getting even a tiny ruby “certified” costs $70 or more each so it’s quite an expense to get 8 or 10 rubies certified. Unless the rubies start being over 3mm each, it’s just not worth the cost.
Most rubies are pink / red vs pure red and it’s not unusually in antique / vintage rings to notice that they all don’t “colour match”. This is why you will find lovely rings, even in platinium, set with synthetic rubies rather than natural to get that fabulous red ruby colour and all the gems matching.

If you want natural rubies with diamonds in an eternity ring, I would recommend Cecile Raley Designs. Yvonne Raley, the owner, sources natural gemstones, and I have bought many heat only 1.25mm-1.75mm ruby melee from her, as well as 3mm unheated rubies.

You can find her melee stones at her Etsy shop https://www.etsy.com/shop/CecileRaleyDesigns/items?ref=l2-shopheader-name&section_id=23586288 and get an idea for how much casting, setting, etc would cost all-in at this page: https://www.cecileraleydesigns.com/pages/eternity-rings

I am in the process of a number of projects with her at the moment; she's very trustworthy and easy to work with. I did three custom projects last year with her and loved the results of them all!
