I still have my legacy sitting around, and no stone to put in it. I just got this stone from ebay, and it's a rubellite. Does it look too intense for the setting?

Here's the stone up close, with the truest I could capture the color with my stinky camera. I've got to get more gem boxes - too crowded in that little one! Taken in a combination of very dim incandescent and natural light.

Here it is in the LOGR legacy.

This picture was taken in a dim room during the day on a cloudy wintery day with very little natural sunlight pouring through.

One more pic with the color as true as I could get it. Here it is next to a regular pink tourmaline, two aquas, and a brown zircon.

I think it''s really pretty! But I would wait if you aren''t 100% sure about it.

Being totally honest, I think the halo overpowers the stone. And that is a stone that should not be overpowered. I would set a larger stone into the LOGR setting and find a setting that would allow the rubellite to be the star.

TL, what do you think about a rose gold for the rubellite? It''s such a pretty stone.

I read the title of your thread and my immediate answer was "yes". Seeing the stone in the gem box, my answer was still yes (and it''s very very very similar in colour to my Umbalite Garnet that I''ve had set in an LOGR). However, seeing it in the setting it actually looks too small and the halo too big so I''d steer away from it. A real shame because I love the combination.

LD,
Is that the umbalite garent from Gene you''re talking about? The oval 2.7 carat one?

I dropped it in a rose gold setting, and it didn't look as nice as white gold. I love this stone, I brought it in every lighting situation imaginable and absolutely no extinction or loss of color. It looks like a little stop light even in the dullest blandest dimmest lighting. It's also very saturated in color. I'm thinking of setting it in my other LOGR, the round halo one.

Don''t bite me, but the colour is so rich that I''m thinking yellow gold.

No TL - it''s the one from John at GemRite. Actually looking at your Rubellite and my gemstone, mine is probably darker but it''s definitely Rubellite looking and a similar tone!!!!

Thats a really nice stone. I can''t believe you bought it on Ebay. But I''m not to keen on the combo either.

Love, love, love the stone but I don''t think it looks so good in that setting.

I also can''t believe that''s an Ebay find! I like it in white gold, but don''t think it looks as pretty as it could in that halo . . .

Maybe a 6 prong setting with side diamonds?

Beautiful stone, but I also agree that the halo is a bit to large for the stone. This is a toughie, as you have a beautiful stone and a lovely setting, but they just do not seem to work well together. If the halo were a bit smaller, I think it would be a great combination.

Okay, I know LOGR is not even close to LM, but how about something like this

Yes, I think the round halo would work better with this particular stone. It''s an absolute beauty. Can you take a picture with it in the round halo? Is that the one with your diamond in it?

As gorgeous as the stone is, it gets lost in that halo setting. Ha, and most Leon settings could make a turd look gorgeous! ROTF!!

I LOVE it in the halo. The contrast of white gold and diamonds just makes the pink flash neon. Yummmy....

ROTF as well. Yes, you could probably put a lump of coal in any of his settings, and it would look gorgeous.

Chrono,
Here it is with yellow gold prongs. I seriously need a new camera, this stone is so much more vibrant and rich than this camera can even begin to depict.

Thanks again for everyone''s opinions. I have to get my stones finally set. My jeweler is so busy this holiday season, I have to wait until the new year to get my gem projects done.

Is that one from the vallejo seller that was mentioned?

I bought a stone from him and I don''t like it. I wanted to exchange for another one that I loved but it got sold before he pulled it off for me.

Which stone did you lose out on? I'm still waiting on a package from him. I think it got lost in the mail.

He did say he would replace it with something else if that were the case.

I have been watching his listings too. I almost bid on a beautiful unheated cushion cut aqua....but I have been so pyranoid with the mail lately. (seeing that your stone may have been lost!)

I sent some earrings to a buyer in Canada....and the earrings were stolen out of the package. So upsetting to say the least. On top of that, the Canadian Post is on strike........so it may take a long time to get my claim!

I also bid on a rainbow moonstone and a blue moonstone from thaigemhouse over a month ago. I have not received them either. The seller said they had been shipped although I had to go to them and ask if they had been shipped and for the tracking number. They have been responsive to my emails.......they said I will receive a full refund if I don''t receive them within a few days...........

You mean the cushion cut aqua that was around 2.7 carats. It's the one in the above pic. It's too light for my taste, but I love the cutting (reminds me of a snowflake) so I decided to keep it. I was drooling so much at everyone's recent aqua purchases, I decided to get a couple. I think it will look darker in a setting if I decide to set it. It was much darker in his photo and he told me it was medium blue, but I beg to differ (more like a light blue if you ask me).

Sorry about your purchases that are taking too long to get here. I have a feeling I'll never get my orange tourmaline because the dealer said there were issues at the Thai airport.
14.gif
I suspect that's their way of getting out of a purchase when the price is too low.

TL - Sorry to hear about your orange tourmaline, but FWIW there really are issues at the Thai airport. Link and Link2 Tourists were stranded there for days. Sounds like a real mess.

Thanks for the information FlyGirl. That''s too bad about all those people trapped there. What a shame.

Ahhh so that would explain it... that is too bad about the people stranded there..

TL.......... I can''t remember the exact size but I do remember the mm range 8.5mm?? And since he only shows one picture of the stone, that was another reason why I was hesitant. It did look darker in the picture with a lovely cut. I would have wanted it darker too...... but the price was right and I am glad that the cut is nice. Always good to know that a PSer is looking at the same thing I was looking at on Ebay... LOL!

Hehe! I like it in yellow.

I bid and won the stone in the attached photo. It''s is a nice stone but I just don''t like the cut. It is too fancy for me - I like the diamond cut better. I guess I should have looked at the photo a little more but I didn''t. I am disappointed but he told me I could switch for this one - http://cgi.ebay.com/Tourmaline-rubelite-6-4mm-1-13ct-diamond-cut-by-seller_W0QQitemZ280288992192. I loved that one and was drolling for it. I was going to bid but he said he would switch it. He left the auction going and it sold so I am out of luck. I am hoping you won that one since it looks so pretty to me.

On the bright side, I got a couple stones from eBay that I am really liking. One is a blue sapphire and I love the colour, one pink tourmaline, and one pink spinel - all cushion shape. I can''t pick which to put in a Legacy type setting (I will start a thread with them later).

On the down side, I have been so ditzy lately. I lost a 3 ct spinel - I was taking it to get appraised and had it in my purse. It some how disappeared must have fallen out or something. I also lost a 2 ct tourmaline - I was showing my sister and my cat jumped on the bed .. it popped off the holder and we couldn''t find it anywhere. I hope something doesn''t happen to my e-ring when I get it. I am really careless with my jewelry and it is not a first that I lose things. I lost a 1ct solitaire in a necklace that was given to me by my dad on my 18th birthday.

Here is the one I won. I didn''t have a chance to take my own photos yet.
