Round Brilliant vs. Passion Cut

Hello Everyone,

I am currently shopping for a diamond for an ering. I am having the setting custom made and I'm trying to figure out which route to go as far as the diamond is concerned. I am having it made at a brick and mortar jeweler so I would like to get the diamond from them as well, just to make the process a little more cohesive.

The setting is designed as close to this as possible...

They currently have a 1.49 ct passion cut diamond that they want to sell me for $12,100. This stone is G in color, Si1 and very good cut and polish. It is graded by EGL, because it's a passion cut the others won't touch it. I don't think there is anyway I am going with this diamond, I just wanted to let you know what they are offering and to get your impression of a passion cut stone.

My question is do you think a brick and mortar jeweler can compete with the prices of these online vendors?

My budget is 12-14k for the stone. Help me find a stone that you think this jeweler might be able to get me for this ring. I am thinking at least 1.5 ct, G color, at least Si1 and GIAxxx or AGS0.

Thanks!

An EGL non-standard round costs less than a GIA standard round, generally speaking, unless they can successfully market their brand of specific cut.

Yea, I guess I understand the difference in the two. I would just like some suggestions of what everyone thinks I can get in a RB that's in my price range.
