Hello everyone,

Wanted to get some input regarding the following stone. Have become a bit overwhelmed at all the information out there, and am driving myself crazy because I keep going back and forth about the specifics of this round brilliant.

When I see it in person it looks great to me, but I don''t know ANYTHING about diamonds.

Here are the specs:
Measurements: 8.17 - 8.22 X 5.12mm
Carat Weight: 2.10
Color: H
Clarity: SI2
Cut Grade: GIA Excellent

Depth: 62.5%
Table: 56%
Crown Angle: 35
Crown Height: 15.5%
Pavilion Angle: 41.2
Pavilion Depth: 43.5%
Star Length: 55%
Lower Half: 80%
Girdle: Medium, Faceted (3.5%)
Culet: None

Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: None

I realize that the clarity and color are not the best, but it is the compromise I am willing to make in order to get the size I want. The most important factors for me are carat and cut, so I basically just want to make sure that this is a well cut diamond. I know that not all GIA excellents are created equal, and wanted to get some feedback on this one.

Thanks in advance for your help!

A little too steep in the pavilion angle for that crown angle. I would look for something better.

Ditto on the pavilion - a bit too steep. You want ~40.7 with that 35 crown.

A H, eyeclean SI2 is certainly no slouch, btw

Its what we call a steep deep, I wouldn''t want to consider this diamond without images august and even then it is quite possible it will show leakage.

Ditto the others. When you say it looks great to you, what lighting environment are you in when looking at the stone? Jeweler''s spotlighting is designed specifically to make marginal and even poorly cut stones look great because it floods the area with so much light. Getting some of those diamonds into a more realistic environment will make them look much different.

Thanks for your help. I am really upset that the jeweler did not point this out to us, but I guess that is to be expected. Maybe he did not think it was something to be concerned about? I was so excited; we have been looking for awhile and I thought we had finally found a great stone.

Based on what I have read, I am guessing an Idealscope picture of the diamond would be beneficial here? Or, based on the numbers, do you think I should forget this diamond and look for a better cut? Are most jewelers able to provide Idealscope images? I also don’t know enough about this stuff to know what I am looking for in an Idealscope image.

Yikes! I think it might have been better if my boyfriend left me out of the decision making process. This is incredibly overwhelming.

Not all jewellers are that concerned with cut quality, or he didn't think it was anything to be concerned about, the thing is that it does raise questions with the angle combo as light leakage is a possibility. What you could do is purchase your own Idealscope and check the diamond out yourself? They are simple to use and the results straightforward to interpret with a little study.

Don't feel overwhelmed, we have guided thousands of new buyers successfully through this process, so we are here for you!

Thank you so much. I am going to have my boyfriend call in the next few days and ask the jeweler if he has an idealscope. Other than that, are the other specs okay? Should I be concerned about the diamond appearing smaller than its carat weight?

As said above, this diamond is what we call a steep deep and could show light leakage, follow the advice I gave in my earlier thread to check for leakage. The spread is ok, maybe a hair small but its fine.
