Rose gold, white gold

Hello,

I have a pink topaz that I am looking at getting set.
I would like the pendant holding the topaz to be made of 18k rose gold and for it to be held on a 9k white gold necklace?

Is this ok?? Is it a no no?

I think that''s a lovely idea! The rose gold basket would enhance the pinkness of the topaz and would definitely make it pop next to the white gold necklace. I''m not normally into two-tone, but rose gold is just so pretty, especially with stones that that have peach/pink/red/purple hues.

You should go for it, if this is what your heart desires. Don''t worry so much about "the rules". Is there a jewelry police that give out citations that I don''t know about?

I just checked out the pictures of your pink topaz, and it''s a beautiful color! The shape is very unique as well...I''ve never seen one like that. I can totally see this in rose gold.

May I ask why you are setting it as a pendant and not a ring?

I think that is a great shape for a pendant! And yes, rose gold would be pretty for the stone setting. I think you could certainly try it with a white gold chain, but you'd have the flexibility of using any chain you wanted if you make the pendant have a bail.

I think the two-tone look sounds incredibly beautiful! I''m a yellow gold girl but have a coupld of white gold pendants I wear on yellow chains, I love the contrast, and your idea sounds awesome!

My concern is more with the 18ct bale wearing against the 9ct chain.

Yes that is my concern too, is it a no no?

I can''t help but think that the constant movement and swinging of the pendant sliding along the chain would wear at the inside of the bale. We''re probably talking years of wear here, but it might save you some trouble down the track at any rate.

I''d be inclined to stick with the same carat gold for both the pendant and chain.

ok, so now I need your help in designing the pendant!

I think I have figured a way around it!

I would like to set the topaz with the point facing up and a teeny tiny yellow diamond (or sapphire) in yellow gold with bezel and then on the chain have 2 white gold bezeled diamonds (I would like rose cut diamonds, but have to check with jeweler) and the pink topaz claw set with rose gold.

This is my photoshop mock up! What do you guys think?
