Hi PSers! I have a quick question. My good friend is getting married next weekend and I mentioned that I have an ultrasonic cleaner and she said she would love for me to clean her ering the day before the wedding for her. My question is, what solution if safe to use for ROSE Gold ering (solitaire, no pave). I normally use ammonia, dishwashing detergent and warm water solution.

Is the ammonia safe for rose gold? Maybe I could just use the dishwash detergent?

Advice, thoughts appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I''ve heard that ammonia is a no go on white gold, but I don''t think that rose is plated like white is. Just to be safe I would just use dishwashing liquid and water.

On another note she could also just take it to a local jewelry store and have it steamed. As much as I love my US, there is nothing like a jewelry store steam!

Hi Honey,
I don''t have an ultrasonic and am not that that familiar with them (am considering buying same one you did

). But to the point, RG is more like YG then anything else, in that the rose colour comes from the copper alloyed with Y gold - so there shouldn''t be any plating that should cause an issue. I would think that if its safe for YG, it''d be safe for RG. But again, I don''t have an US, sorry!

On a different note, would you say the one you purchased is worth the investment? How often do you use it, and is there any possible damage/wear and tear to a *normal* ring (ie. no pave)?
Thankyou!

I use windex in mine, but I would think the amonia ones would be fine on rose gold.

I bought my ultrasonic on ebay for £30 GBP and love it - even FI can see the difference, I stick nearly all my jewellery in it.

For heavy duty cleaning, Mr. Clean (the brand name, not any generic) does notcontain ammonia. I use a bit of that with detergent and hot water in my US on WG and YG and have had no problems.

i use mr. clean also. when my US cleaner was in the kitchen, i would use 5-6 sprays of mr. clean, some dishwashing liquid and warm water, but now that my US cleaner stays in my master bath, i only use mr. clean and water. i upped the dosage of mr. clean to 8 sprays now tho.

i put plat, wg, yg, and rg in there. it''s seems to work fine.

Sorry I have been so slack in replying! Just wanted to say thanks everyone for the info. I think I will stick to detergent and warm water, just because it''s not my ring and I would be devastated if something happened to my friends ering the day before her wedding. I am getting shivers of dread just thinking about it!!

I am very happy with my ultrasonic. I have only put my ering in there once, to get some marks off after the band was altered. I actually don''t have my ring yet, the question hasn''t offically been asked, and it is just sitting in the safe waiting for me!

I just had a terrible thought! What if being in a safe for too long makes a diamond shrink!!

I better tell SO that he could be doing serious damage to my ACA

Back to the point, I actually use if often to clean my other ring and earrings that I wear daily. And, you woudn''t believe it, but I also used it the other day to clean the aerators on the bathroom taps. You know how they have like a metal sieve thingy at the end of the tap, well this gets clogged easy and then the water doesn''t come out in a nice smooth stream and it shoots water everywhere when you stick your hands under it. Well, if you unscrew this big and drop it in the us, it works a treat! Funny, SO is looking at my us with a newfound respect now - I better not find that it has been moved out into the garage!!
