Hello! so I've always been attracted to rose cut diamonds! I an think they are gorgeous! but then I don't know anything about them, and since they are so rare, it's quite difficult to find out more information about them!

What would you consider a great rose cut diamond? other than the usual C's? and if you have a ring with a rose cut diamond, please show them off!

I'm interested to hear any responses too. :read:

Me too - I don't know much about them, but would be very happy to learn.

Anyone?

I only own one rose cut, a pear from JbEG, and it's one of my favourite stones ::)

I wanted a few specific characteristics:
-Clarity. There's no bedazzling sparkle to distract you from inclusions, which means they stand out more.
-Outline. Rose cuts seem to come in all shapes and sizes, literally... and some look much more methodically and deliberately faceted than others, and some are much more attractive to me than others!
-Dome/crown height. I really like higher-domed rose cuts - the greater the difference in angle between adjacent facets the greater the odds of catching a single wavelength of dispersion (colour!).

The light return is so very, very different from a diamond with a faceted pavilion! I never see contrast, bright white sparkle, or scintillation from my rose cut; it's clear as glass, and in the sunshine the peripheral facets throw off giant flashes of colour. Another PSer Elliot called rose cuts 'soft and watery' and I love that description.

derbygal had an absolutely incredible rose cut halo ring for a while. She wound up returning it because the setting was problematic, but the stones and design was TDF

Thing2's rose cut in rose gold bezel by JbEG is another one of my absolute favourites! The stone and the style of setting complement each other perfectly IMO. Her ring was the one that made me realise I *needed* a rose cut in a bezel

When I'm considering rose cuts, I like a nice high dome with symmetrical and visually pleasing facets, and eye cleanliness (larger rose cuts often are not eye clean). They also show their color, so you want to find the color tone that pleases your eye (whether that's colorless, yellow toned or top light brown).

But the above is what I look for in these types of stones - it's really very personal. I might sacrifice one of my criteria for a vintage rose cut in its original setting, for example. So it really depends.

I've owned two, one from JBEG and one was a Ruby Lane find (a completely lucky fluke because I had misspelled what I was searching for).

Rose cuts get you a nice spready diamond with less carat weight, but I was startled by how thin they are the first time I held one! Something about them is so magical though.

Yssie, Ericad, Elliot86--- Your descriptions sound so romantic.

Thank you all for taking the time to post some examples and information. It led me to "Antique Jewelry University" which showed lots of different cuts and also the evolution of the MRB. All very interesting. This is what I love about PS.

This is also another thing on how to figure out the crown size etc... lol it seems like that this cut is more of like a personal preference thing when it comes to cut, I've also heard that there are double sided ones? I have also heard that they are not as expensive and not a very good investment, at the same time some would also say that it's actually expensive especially that most are vintage and very rare! do you guys have any suggestions on where I can possibly purchase this cut?

Okay, add rose cut to my list :cheeky: I love the pear rose cut necklace. Beautiful. Really all of them are lovely!

Wow, look at those rainbows!

They are so beautiful, so if someone can suggest a place online where I can get one then that would be great! lol

For rose cuts I actually like them in smaller sizes. If you go to big they just look like paste or glass. But the smaller sizes (say under 7mm) I think are stunning.
