I just purchased a ring from Robbins Bros. in San Diego. I got caught up in the moment, and I am now starting to think I paid a significant amount more than I should have. I purchased a GIA 1.01 ct E VS2 Excellent Cut solitaire. The to came out to around $10,500 after tax. I have seen similar diamonds online for 6K-7K. I admit the diamond is beautiful, and I was happy at the time of purchase, but I am having second thoughts. My question for anyone that might have experience with RB''s is, when I pick up the ring is there a chance that they will lower the price, and match that of equal quality stones? I am aware of their money back guarantee so that is an option. The only problem is I do really like the ring, I just don''t like the fact that I would be paying 30%-40% more than market value.

Any insight or advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.

You could definitely do MUCH better by going with one of the trusted vendors here.

I had originally looked at RBs (I was interested in the Simon G rings they carried), but I quickly found I could get a larger, better cut diamond for less online. I purchased my diamond from GOG and got a bigger, way better diamond for less!

Here's an E sI1 from Good Old Gold. 1.26 carats for less than what you paid. Two steps down in clarity, but there's a good possibility that it's totally eye clean.

I'd really consider that return policy. Especially if you're doing a simple solitaire. You could get a larger stone for less. I don't know if your stone is well cut, but you can get excellent/ideal cuts online for much less.

When we bought my first ering, we were caught up in the moment too--2 upgrades later and a lot of pricescoping--I finally got what I wanted.

If I had to do it over again, I'd buy from Good Old Gold. (They're the vendor that appeals to me the most)

Many love Whiteflash, James Allen, Engagement Rings Direct, and the list goes on.

Thanks for the responses I am going to give my sales person a call today and see what she has to say. I will keep you posted.

Good Lord take it back. I SO dislike RB..

I read this at first saying you didn''t like round brilliants then I realized what you meant and I''m cracking up over here!!

Quick update... I called my sales rep and she was very polite. She told me to print out some online prices of equal quality stones and she offered to match the price. I will go there tomorrow and possibly either upgrade to a larger stone for the same price or lower the cost of the current stone. I''m not out of the woods yet so once again I will keep you posted. So far I must admit I''m actually pretty happy with my experience as it was my fault I didn''t research prices prior to going there. I do know a lot can change come tomorrow.

Their name says it all..Robbins Bros...I think you got robbed.
Sorry, I would never purchase from them due to a bad experience so maybe I''m not the best PSer to post here!

I do hope you are able to get some money off or even better a larger stone!

Be sure to keep us posted and of course to post some pictures!

Good Luck!
