Well, I found a ritani setting that I love. It''s one from the modern collection, pure platinum with a split shank. It''s very clean and is exactly what I''ve been searching for. Here''s the issue. I''ve heard that ritani can take a while with orders and I don''t know why but sending them my diamond kind of freaks me out. This setting is available for purchase from a local store. It is for a 1.5 round and my diamond is a 1.23 oval. Do you think I could just purchase the setting and have someone tweak it and set it for me or is this risky? I would rather do that and have it immediately and not have to deal with ordering from ritani, sending the diamond to them, etc....Please let me know your thoughts. I am clueless about setting a diamond properly. Thanks in advance!!!

If I were paying for a Ritani setting, there is no question that I would send my stone to them to have them make the ring and the head the exact size for me. It is much more risky to try to alter the sample ring.

Hi Showsy! Welcome to PS!

Glad you found the setting you love! Ritani makes some fabulous settings! Yours does sound gorgeous.

Having a diamond set properly is really an important part of the process. If not done correctly, your diamond can be damaged. I don''t know much about the intricacies of having a diamond set, however, given your "custom" scenario (oval diamond for round setting) and the likely need to make alterations to the head of some sort, it might be in your best interest to send your diamond to Ritani directly to have them take care of it for you ...

Given your hesitation with having this done, if you are dealing with a Ritani vendor, is it not possible to have Ritani custom your setting to the specs of diamond and then just ship the completed setting out to your jeweler, at which time it can be set? This way, the setting will be made to fit your diamond specifically. This is what I did with mine. I picked my diamond and my setting was made by Simon G and sent to my jeweler who set it for us.

I hope that helps! Good luck!

i agree. we''ve seen time and time again where designer settings get messed up when the local store tries to set the stones. Butterfly17 has a ritani and she first had her local store set it stone. it was crooked and not right. she ended up having to send it back to ritani anyway which just took more time. Ritani is VERY reputable and will take very good care of your stone.
