Ring sizing concern. Too small?

I received my rocker of an engagement ring this weekend (will post specs, pictures, story shortly) but have a concern I want to address now. How can I tell when my ring is too tight or small? I have a 2.5mm band. It sits comfortably around my ring finger but hurts my knuckle when I take it off. In the mornings I sometime have to jam the ring with force over my knuckle. I had my ring size measured by two different jewelry stores (size 5 1/2) but had my measurements taken on cold days. Since we got engaged in the Carribean, which is warmer, this may have caused some finger expansion. When I look down at my ring, I can see that it nips the fleshly part of my ring finger the tiniest bit. The ring does not swirl or move even though I have a large center stone.

So my question is when is a ring too snug? Should I increase the band size to a size 6? Any personal experiences and suggestions?

My thoughts are that if it is uncomfortable to wear or extremely hard to get off or on, then I would consider sizing it.

I am not sure if I would size yours or not. However if you live in a place where it is very humid in the summer and this is uncomfortable now, I might take it up 1/4 size just to make it nice in the winter as well as the summer.

yeah I think it is a matter of personal preference, some people prefer rings that fit snugly and others like some wiggle room. maybe keep it for a week or two and see how it feels? also congratulations on your engagement!

it sounds too small. my rings will grab when my hand is puffy or its hot out but not to that extent. it spins a bit and is quite loose when its cold. There is rarely a perfect fit 365 days a year. i suggest having it sized up a qtr of a size. if its really too loose then add a sizing bead to the slightly larger size

might depend on your knuckle size. i think i have "large" knuckles cuz i have the same issue. if i size it large enough to fit comfortably over the knuckle - snug but not painful, it rolls around on my finger, which is awful. my jeweler said to size it to fit where you wear it - as long as it can go over the knuckle - not to size it for the knuckle because it will probably be too loose. she said use windex to slide it over.

You might try sizing it up a half or 3/4 and adding sizing beads - this would provide a little more wiggle room getting it on and off but keep it snug in place when it's on.

Too small IMO too!

If you have knuckles bigger than the fleshy part of your finger, I'd size up and add beads.

If you have small knuckles and fat fingers (e.g., me), I'd keep it tight ... for now, and size it when you get a wedding band (because the added thickness of the wedding band will make the ER even more uncomfortable), so better to size both at once.

Also, in either case, I'd avoid salt (I say this as I lick a salt lick myself <sigh>). :twirl:

I have the same problem. My ering is a 6 and its too big but slides easily over my knuckle. My wedding band is a 5 and if I am cold slides on and off fine. If I workout with it on I swell and cant get it off. Same with sleeping as well. I decided to workout without the wedding band and sleep without my rings to alleviate the problem.
