Hi all,

So I'm almost ready to purchase - I actually have another thread going at the same time on nailing the final choice out of 4 diamonds - feel free to throw in your two cents!

Anyway, I never did manage to figure out my girlfriends exact ring size. I don't really want to ask her sister or friends, as I want it to be a complete surprise. I did manage to grab a ring she wore on her right forefinger and trace the outline, but this obviously isn't all that accurate.I do also know that her left forefinger is roughly the same size as my pinkie up to the first joint, but that doesn't really help.

Oh, and I'm purchasing from Whiteflash but live in Australia.

So the plan is to purchase a smallish size ring (Platinum Tiffany style knife edge solitaire) - maybe size 4 or 4.5, and just hope it fits well. Her fingers really are quite slim. If it doesn't fit - I'll just get a local jeweler to reset, and appraise at the same time for insurance purposes.

Sound like a plan? Any gaping holes, or suggestions?

I assume I should aim slightly bigger as it will be better to take metal out of the ring than vice versa?

If you have the opportunity, you can take a piece of string and gently wrap it around her ring finger while she sleeps, then mark what the circumference is. You can then figure out how many millimeters that is, and determine an accurate size from there.

I don''t know much about the technical details of sizing, but I''d err on the larger side--always better for her to be able to put it on when you propose! If it''s too small, I could picture an awkward situation potentially occurring.

Good luck!

I would try and find out her ring size. Not to be sarcastic or offending, but every man that comes on here says ''my gf''s fingers are slim.......'', girls fingers just look littler than guys hands. You simply cannot estimate ring size like that.

Try the string idea and see if it''s close to the outline from the RHR, then go from there. Bear in mind, that our fingers on both hands are not necessarily the same size

Good luck
