Hello All,

I just came back from having my ring appraised. The ring is slightly tight. Since I''m paranoid, I wanted to have the ring appraised and insured before I get the ring resized. The appraiser told me that I might want to wait until the winter before having my ring resized. He said that it might fit in the winter. Do you think this is good advice? I just joined the gym and am following a new eating plan and hope to lose weight. My ring size might change from losing weight too, right? Thanks for the help.

How tight is "slightly"? Is there tugging involved to get it off?

I can get the ring on and off, but I have to twist it a bit. I would say it''s half a size too small.

Ok, I think you could get it sized now. He is right, our fingers are more swollen during the hot months, so they do go down a tad in winter. And yes, losing weight can show up in your fingers. Half size sounds like it could be right.

If you normally throughout the day have to do the twisting to get it off I think you should size it right now. I have a ring that during the day seems a bit loose, and if Im chilly or get near the AC its definitely loose, but wont ever fall down over the knuckle or anything like that. However, in the morning I can barely get it off without tugging on it. Once I drink water and start moving around Im fine, but I sleep on my hands so my hands are puffiest in the morning.

Anyways, if my ring was tight like that in the morning all the time I''d have it sized. Especially since you are starting to work out and such your hands will typically get more swollen during workouts and you probably want it comfortable during this time. You can always size it back later on.

Before you resize your ring, make absolutely sure that it is necessary to do so. I hate to see you unnecessarily turn a perfect ring to a "reworked" ring.

Your finger may likely shrink a bit during winter and after you have a significant weight loss. Does the ring feel uncomfortably tight, or is it just slightly tight? Sometimes , it is a good thing to have the ring a little on the tight side, so it would not accidentally fall off your finger, rotate to the side on its own, or slide down to your knuckle when you drop your hand.

You may want to try on the plastic ring sizer (a chain of plastic rings of various sizes). This way, you will know what size works best for you without having to experiment on the actual ring.

I would resize during the summer like how it is now, if you are working to twist it off, probably need it sized up just a tad you can always do a 1/4 size up, if you size 1/2 up and it''s too large in the winter, you can always put in sizing beads so you don''t resize it again every season.
