My wife''s wedding/engagement ring is a solitare 1.5 ct Emerald cut diamond on a small gold band attached to a second small gold band. The second band, the wedding band, was notched to fit to the engagement ring. I have been thinking of maybe changing the setting and/or adding some stones to either side of it. I was trying to find some ideas of Emerald cut settings on the internet but have not had much luck. Its a beautiful ring and therefore I am not sure I want to mess with it, but I did want to look at some tasteful options. Any clue as to where I can get some ideas?

Does you wife want to change it?

Yes, she has talked about it off and on, daydreaming mostly. You know, one of those conversations that start off, "what would it look like"? I have been thinking about giving her a nice present. I am probably going to get her a nice pair of earrings or maybe some kind of piece that has our childrens birthstones. I don''t really know, right now I am in the learning/gathering information mode.

If you are wanting to surprise her, i think it would be cool to have a right hand ring or necklace or even some sort of charm braclet with your kids birthstones. If it were me, I would want to be involved in choosing a new setting for my wedding set. You could take her to a jeweler to try on a bunch of different setting and see what catches her eye and then proceed from there.

I agree....I''m in the midst of getting a new ring for my 10-year anniversary. I want to be part of the process as well. My DH chose my first ring for me (with my input!) and chose what I wanted for that time (11-year ago including the engagement). My tastes, however, have changed over the years and while I love the sentimental value that goes with my original wedding set, I''m looking for something totally different now...I''ve already chosen the setting (w/ DH''s blessing...now I''m looking for the perfect Emerald cut stone (that I can afford) to go with it!

Here''s my new setting...we had the jeweler lay an EC stone on the basket so I can visualize what the stone would look like when attached....it was STUNNING!!!
