Stemming from this thread from last year...https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/ring-preferences-2011-edition.164348/,,, I thought I'd make a new one for this year!

1) Do you know what kind of engagement ring you want? Diamond (or other stone), size, shape, metal type, side stones vs. solitaire, etc.? Post some pictures!

2) Does your FF know what you want? If not, will you tell him/give him some ideas, or leave it all up to him to choose?

3) Will you/Did you go ring shopping with him?

4) Do you have an idea of what his budget is?

5) How about a wedding band? What do you like? Do you want it to be part of a matching set with the e-ring?

6) Wedding band for you guy? Do you know what he likes? Do you want it to match your ring?

7) Finally - what don''t you like when it comes to rings! For your engagement ring, for your wedding ring or for his wedding ring! And it''s okay to be honest. We all have different tastes, likes/dislikes, etc.

I'll go ahead and start.. :naughty:

1) Do you know what kind of engagement ring you want? Diamond (or other stone), size, shape, metal type, side stones vs. solitaire, etc.? Post some pictures!
http://www.bluenile.com/engagement-rings/recently-purchased-engagement-ring-details?ring_id=852571179
I want a cushion...not sure still on the exact cut but I've been poking around RT when I have some free time and watching GOG's wonderful videos!! I really love the look of a cushion with a thin pave shank (a la Tiffany Novo) but at the same time I love the detailed basket of Tacori rings. So really I'm hoping for the Tacori 2638 but maybe modified so that the prongs aren't as thick/obtrusive? Maybe even if it would be at all possible to get the basket to be more continuous like in the 2620 but idk how the prongs would work on that one since they seem to come from the inside and are hidden by the halo on the 2620. ::) Anyhoo those are just thoughts rambling through my brain! I don't have a huge pref for metal, but prob 18k so we can save some on the setting and put it towards the center stone. If I don't get that, I'd honestly be happy with a stand-out 6-prong solitaire!! (I know, it's so weird how different it is...if it's a RB I like it on its own and not with pave sides, but cushion I much prefer the Novo look with pave shank).

2) Does your FF know what you want? If not, will you tell him/give him some ideas, or leave it all up to him to choose?
Not yet, but he most definitely will know exactly what I want when the time comes!!!

3) Will you/Did you go ring shopping with him?
I probably will

4) Do you have an idea of what his budget is?
Not yet, but I do have an idea of how much we will be making once we graduate (we're in the same profession...and as long as we can still get a job :errrr:) and I would be comfortable with at least 1 month salary ...works to about $7500

5) How about a wedding band? What do you like? Do you want it to be part of a matching set with the e-ring?
I don't particularly care for matching sets, but I would like them to complement each other. I love the fingerprint bands! Where there is an imprint of your OH's fingerprint on the inside of the band. i.e.:
http://www.etsy.com/listing/91975770/custom-low-profile-half-round-sterling
http://www.etsy.com/listing/75820012/the-original-custom-fingerprint-wedding

I also really dig infinity bands. i.e.:
http://www.kwiat.com/fine-diamond-jewelry/diamond-ring-fidelity-collection-18k-white-gold/p/6291/100/0/0
http://www.bluenile.com/white-gold-wedding-ring_21483?click_id=252364298
http://etienneperret.com/gallery/wedding-rings/tapered-bead-set-wave-band-wht-800-2

or braided/woven looks like so: (I feel like my fingers are short though so I don't know how well a thicker band would look on me)
http://www.etsy.com/listing/68692982/030-carats-natural-diamond-wedding-band
http://www.kwiat.com/fine-diamond-jewelry/row-woven-diamond-ring-18k-white-gold/p/29711/100/0/0

6) Wedding band for you guy? Do you know what he likes? Do you want it to match your ring?
Haven't gotten this far. I imagine he'll like something simple though. Matching fingerprint bands would be awesome!

7) Finally - what don''t you like when it comes to rings! For your engagement ring, for your wedding ring or for his wedding ring! And it's okay to be honest. We all have different tastes, likes/dislikes, etc.
I don't like cluster rings...like where a bunch of smaller diamonds come together to make a larger shape. Especially when surrounded by another halo that is very large and also cluster looking (or like flower petals? I have seen some halos that look like petals that have been done well, but the majority have not). To me, it just seems too flashy, and like you are trying to make it look like you have a larger ring when you just have many smaller and (usually) lesser quality stones thrown together.

Okay, I must be seriously bored today (or maybe I'm just having fun day dreaming), but you know what...why the heck not?

1) Do you know what kind of engagement ring you want? Diamond (or other stone), size, shape, metal type, side stones vs. solitaire, etc.? Post some pictures!
I am desperately in love with Haven's OMB upgrade: https://www.pricescope.com/communit...y-2-30-ct-omb-antique-cushion-upgrade.158760/ I think it's perfect. I love antique cut stones (OECs, but especially transitionals. Oh, how I love transitionals) in really warm colours (O/P? Yes, please!), I love chunky facets, I love solitaires, and I love the coppery warmth of the rose gold in her ring. It is just perfect. Mine would end up being significantly smaller, but it's cool. I can definitely handle having her ring's baby cousin on my finger.

2) Does your FF know what you want? If not, will you tell him/give him some ideas, or leave it all up to him to choose?
Nope, BF and I haven't talked about rings at all. He's asked what kind of metal I like ("So...do you like gold or silver?") and seemed to try to remember what I liked when I answered ("I like white gold and rose gold." "What?" "Like those! *points to a WG/RG bracelet*" "Ohhhh, silver and copper. Okay.") But he knows I'm very picky about my jewelry and that I love it and that I belong to a jewelry forum, so when we start seriously talking about it he'd better take notes. But he seems like the kind of guy that would want to do it on his own. So this will be interesting. (And just in case, I've e-mailed the link to Haven's ring to two of my close friends.)

3) Will you/Did you go ring shopping with him?
A girl can dream! I would love to. Seriously.

4) Do you have an idea of what his budget is?
Nope. But we've only been together for a little while, so I'm sure the idea of starting to save for this hasn't even occurred to him yet.

5) How about a wedding band? What do you like? Do you want it to be part of a matching set with the e-ring?
I don't like matchy matchy anything. I want something that coordinates, and that can stand on its own. Maybe a French cut 3/4 eternity in RG?

6) Wedding band for you guy? Do you know what he likes? Do you want it to match your ring?
No idea, and I don't really care what it looks like. It's his ring, he should love it.

7) Finally - what don''t you like when it comes to rings! For your engagement ring, for your wedding ring or for his wedding ring! And it''s okay to be honest. We all have different tastes, likes/dislikes, etc.

I don't like marquise cuts. I don't like RBs. I *hate* princess cuts. I don't like 3 stone rings unless the side stones are very small and generally a different shape. I don't like cluster rings, and I don't like YG. I don't like bulky prongs, or wide bands. I don't want anything that can't be sized. I don't like anything that sits really high. Ummm...I'm sure there's more, but that sums it up for now.

Good idea! I'll play:

1) Do you know what kind of engagement ring you want? Diamond (or other stone), size, shape, metal type, side stones vs. solitaire, etc.? Post some pictures!
Yes, in fact, I do! ;-)
Diamond definitely. I've always liked round, but I am also in love with cushions. I will have a cushion one day. But being on a budget, we sought out round old cuts (OECs) because they are a bit easier to find. 18kt white gold, I don't tend to care for platinum, no side stones, solitaire. And in the setting I have loved for YEARS now...the Sholdt R379-1 solitaire, semi bezel. Mmmm.

Our setting...being made as we speak:
http://www.pearlmansjewelers.com/jewelry-designers/sholdt-jewelry/rings/08ZZ1/

Video of a sample of the setting in action (note the sample is 1ct, ours is .788ct):

Our diamond...

2) Does your FF know what you want? If not, will you tell him/give him some ideas, or leave it all up to him to choose?
Yes indeedy. He started the talk by asking questions about what I'd like. I said there a million things I'd LOVE, but it comes down to what we can afford. For what we spent, I get my favorite ring for this price point.

3) Will you/Did you go ring shopping with him?
We sort of did. I've been a PSer for so long that most of our 'shopping' was online. We did check out one local antique store (that was amazing!!) and tried some things on in person and got sized. We had fun :)

4) Do you have an idea of what his budget is?
We kind of decided this together. We could have spent more, but we have a long list of financial goals that we'd like to accomplish in the next ten years so we decided to keep it small and see what we could do. We set the bar at 2k and came in just under...all thanks to Gypsy!

5) How about a wedding band? What do you like? Do you want it to be part of a matching set with the e-ring?
I'm torn on this. There's the dream bands and there is what we likely will be able to afford. Dream bands aside, we'll probably go with plain white gold bands.

A dream band, I totally love this one I tried on at our local place:
http://www.gesner.com/antique-vinta...latinum-diamond-art-deco-eternity-band-9.html

What I'll probably get:
http://www.e-weddingbands.com/store/product106287.html

6) Wedding band for you guy? Do you know what he likes? Do you want it to match your ring?
This is Andrew's dream band. He absolutely loves it.
http://greenlakejewelry.com/gallery/gallery_detail.aspx?ImgID=BND_MG_10415 -- Price for a size 10.5 in 6mm width is $2400

He'll probably choose something like this in the meantime:
http://www.e-weddingbands.com/store/product168181.html
http://www.e-weddingbands.com/store/product106291.html

We've already discussed future upgrades for us both so we'll probably go practical and get something fancier for both of us in the future.

7) Finally - what don''t you like when it comes to rings! For your engagement ring, for your wedding ring or for his wedding ring! And it''s okay to be honest. We all have different tastes, likes/dislikes, etc.
Things I don't like (FOR ME!):
Three stones...I'm all about simplicity.
Prongs. Hate them. I'm all about the bezels.
Pave. I like the way it looks but it's a no go for me. I am absolutely not careful enough.
Full eternities, I need the practicality of being able to size something down the road.
Halos...not my thing.
Cuts I couldn't ever see wearing: princess, emerald, trillion, heart. I don't usually like marquise stones, but in the right east west setting, they can be lovely. Same for ovals, if I could find a truly great one, I could be game, but they are hard to come by. Asschers are gorgeous but I'm not sure I could keep them clean enough...maybe someday. I'll probably always be a soft cornered round or cushion gal.
Spacers. I don't want to need one. A gap wouldn't bug me, but needing an additional spacer ring would probably have me choosing something else.

I'm sure there are more but that's my list for now.

Ooh I forgot 3 stone rings too! Not for me. I have seen some pretty ones where the sidestones are different shapes, but in general not me. And agreed on princess and emerald...I like the perfect square cushions but once it has sharp corners, nuh-uh!! The only odd shape I would consider outside of round and cushion would be a pear. Very classy and such a pretty and flattering shape.

Also agree on eternities...I would think it is a little too uncomfortable but I'm sure you could get used to it. I think the spacer for me wouldn't necessarily be to get rid of the gap, but to prevent any delicate pave work from ering or wb to be rubbing on each other.

Yay lists! Any other ladies have some time to tell us what you want in a ring? ::)

Yes! Tiffany & Co Novo setting. Around 1ct.
http://www.tiffany.com/Engagement/Item.aspx?GroupSKU=GRP10015#f+0/0/0/0/0/0

2) Does your FF know what you want? If not, will you tell him/give him some ideas, or leave it all up to him to choose?
Yes, he knows. He actually helped pick it out.

3) Will you/Did you go ring shopping with him?
Yep! We went 3x. The 1st time to check out styles and see what we liked. The second because i was getting a piece of jewelry repaired and the SA talked me into trying it on again...and 3x because i was stuck on possibly wanting original tiffany setting. Minor lapse in judgement on that one haha. We are sticking with my Novo!

4) Do you have an idea of what his budget is?

$11k or slightly over. He has a few rolex watches and breitlings...so he knows he cant be cheap on me...LOL

5) How about a wedding band? What do you like? Do you want it to be part of a matching set with the e-ring?
Matching Novo. I originally wanted 2, but i quickly decided against it after trying two on with the ring in the last visit.

6) Wedding band for you guy? Do you know what he likes? Do you want it to match your ring?
He is simple, likes anything dark gunmetal colors...titanium or whatever. No diamonds, just blah which is ok with me haha. We haven't really looked into it.

7) Finally - what don''t you like when it comes to rings! For your engagement ring, for your wedding ring or for his wedding ring! And it''s okay to be honest. We all have different tastes, likes/dislikes, etc.

I don't like yellow gold! I also dislike halos when its a tiny stone, they look funny to me...and 2 row halo settings...don't like them either. I also dislike 3 stone rings in all circumstances, same goes for 5 stone bands..LOL i don't know why, i just dont like them. It's just a me thing though. I dislike everyone telling me with my budget i can get a big ole ring made almost exactly like the Novo for the same amt of money. He wants to buy me the original, i want the original. i don't want a 2 carat ring, i like my .95-1ct ring that i will be getting. If he's ok with the price then i don't see the issue :(sad

I'll play!

1) Do you know what kind of engagement ring you want? Diamond (or other stone), size, shape, metal type, side stones vs. solitaire, etc.? Post some pictures!

I surely do, and we already have the ring! I knew I wanted an antique cut, and ended up with an OEC. I fell in love with this particular ring while just out browsing with a PSer friend at Lang Antiques, totally not intending to find THE ONE, but the second I put it on my finger I knew I had to have it. I posted a SMTB thread when it was first purchased:

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-soon-to-be-lang-antiques-e-ring.166523/

2) Does your FF know what you want? If not, will you tell him/give him some ideas, or leave it all up to him to choose?

He knew that I'm really picky when it comes to diamonds/jewelry, so he knew that I was always going to want in on the selection process. Luckily he was very understanding and always said that he just wanted me to be happy and have something I really love, so that was great!

3) Will you/Did you go ring shopping with him?

I didn't physically take him browsing/shopping with me until I had found my ring. I went with a PSer friend for the most part to browse at a bunch of different places, and when I unexpectedly found mine I told BF about it and he said he wanted to go see it before deciding to buy. So I took him with me to Lang's, hoping beyond hope that he loved it as much as I did, which he did! When we walked out of the shop I had a ring!

4) Do you have an idea of what his budget is?

We had a budget that we had discussed and were both comfortable with. The ring I ended up choosing came in at under half of that budget, so that was way awesome.

5) How about a wedding band? What do you like? Do you want it to be part of a matching set with the e-ring?

I bought a Simon G eternity band almost 3 years ago after I had just ended an engagement a few months prior as a gift to myself for being an awesome single girl and loving life. I had never really even considered the possibility of wearing it as a wedding band until I saw that it really complements my ering nicely. So, I've decided that it will be my future wedding band! It looks great, and I can't think of anything that would go better, and I'm loving the story of its evolution from "single girl" ring to "married woman" ring.

Photo of it here with my ering https://www.pricescope.com/forum/download/file.php?id=296017

BF and I have decided that I'm going to have a 5-stone, more substantial band made as a second wedding band that will more blingalicious and a standalone.

6) Wedding band for you guy? Do you know what he likes? Do you want it to match your ring?

I know that he really digs the idea of a titanium band, so that'll definitely be what we look for for him. In terms of style, he doesn't yet know and I don't really care what he chooses. It's his ring to wear, he can pick what it looks like.

7) Finally - what don''t you like when it comes to rings! For your engagement ring, for your wedding ring or for his wedding ring! And it''s okay to be honest. We all have different tastes, likes/dislikes, etc.

I don't like square cuts on my fingers (princess, emerald, asscher), they make my fingers look short and squat. I don't even know how that's possible because my fingers are very long and thin, but yeah. Not for me. Also don't really like halos, yellow gold, marquise, or wide shanks. For me, the daintier the better. Oh, and I also HATE rings that are completely encrusted with diamonds!! It just looks like diamond vomit to me. I prefer more clean, elegant lines and focal points.

Victor Camera Emilya halo no donut so I can have a flush WB, RB stone. My first marriage, I had a pear solitaire. I had wanted one since my mom had one and wanted to be " traditional" and follow her lead. This time, I wanted a RB solitaire. Then I wanted a Christopher Deisgns cushion halo when I saw it in person. But then I saw Frankie's ring here and I just loved it. And I kept thinking about it which was a sign for me.....after careful analysis, it feels important to me to have something that appears very different from what I had before. So solitaire and solitaire started to feel too similar.

SO knows but wants my input/decisions as well as handle a lot of details. However, we would have the finished ring sent to my parents' house and that way he can surprise me.

We have been shopping together a few times plus he has sent me alone to look at stones. And I have done all the online searching myself, just showing him different things. Tiring him out! :naughty:

Budget - well, there is one but I can't complain, it is a nice one. =)

Wedding band - matching one to the VC, unless I can find something that looks great. My last one was a five stone. It looked great with a pear, I don't like it as much with a RB solitaire and def not with the VC!

SO's plain WG I would guess, whatever He wants. He wouldn't want fancy though.

I like solitaires, Tiffany classics. I like halos like VC does. I think three stones look good with one center sapphire or two side sapphires but don't like them with all diamonds. I don't like tons of detail, like Veraggio, it is too much for me. however, I have seen a few Simon G settings that I thought were beautiful but not for me. I don't like YG. No channel set. I think cushions are beautiful but princess cuts are too harsh, plus they don't flatter my hand. I still like how pears look, but not the memories that go with them :D I love eternity bands, but not when they stick out and looked squared off against your finger. I think yellow diamonds are beautiful, fancy yellows I mean.

Celeb rings I like - Khloe Kardasian, Reese Witherspoon, Guiliana Rancic

HUMOR ME HERE!!

1) Do you know what kind of engagement ring you want? Diamond (or other stone), size, shape, metal type, side stones vs. solitaire, etc.? Post some pictures!

Yes. Too many. I have a problem  I want an OEC or tranny. I also want a H&A. And I want an antique chunky cushion that's almost half OEC and half cushion. Like Anne_H's https://www.pricescope.com/communit...ct-oec-victor-canera-split-shank-halo.168492/. I want a warmer colored diamond (L, M, N?), a white diamond (up to H or I?) and a light yellow diamond (whether it be a W-X, Y-Z, or FLY).

Size = as big as $ permits. HAHA. Wait. Does this all have to be realistic? I mean the thread says 'preferences', right? Because I'd prefer me a 7 carat honker. Yes. 7 carats! I want to be able to say, "sorry honey, I can't wash the dishes tonight, my hand is sore." Haha. Realistically? I'd love to have a 10mm diamond one day. Technically, if I don't vacation, don't shop for all the crap clothing and junk I always do, and don't waste $ on eating out, I *COULD*, right?

Metal = white gold or platinum. Heck, I'd want a YG and RG one just for variety, too!

Setting = I think Victor Canera is god. I'd put a halo on my hypothetical H&A and my light yellow. I'd go to SingleStone for my hypothetical OEC/tranny 5 carat warm colored diamond ;-) I like halos. I like filigree. I like intricate metal work. No side stones. Unless I get a hypothetical 4th ring. Then it'd be a huge honking emerald cut 3 stone.

2) Does your FF know what you want? If not, will you tell him/give him some ideas, or leave it all up to him to choose?

Yes, he knows I'm crazy. I think he's going to stick with the H&A route, since it's so much easier for him to pick out with the idealscope and HCA tool. He knows I'll murder him in his sleep if he dares buy me a diamond without my input-- anything that costs $$$$$ should have my stamp of approval first! The only thing he's allowed to attempt himself is H&A. And he knows I want it all negotiated and written on paper: buy-back, trade-in, and return policies.

3) Will you/Did you go ring shopping with him?

I'll kill him in his sleep otherwise!

4) Do you have an idea of what his budget is?

Yes.

5) How about a wedding band? What do you like? Do you want it to be part of a matching set with the e-ring?

I want a matching WB that can sit flush with whatever e-ring I end up with. I don't mind wearing a spacer. But THIS is where I think I can more healthily divulge in my need for variety, since e-rings are much pricier. I want a Cartier tricolor rolling ring. I also want a bling-a-licious, thicker band like the Tiffany's Victoria.

6) Wedding band for you guy? Do you know what he likes? Do you want it to match your ring?

I also would like him to have a variety. No, it never has to match my rings. His key thing is that it has to be comfortable. And he hates yellow gold.

7) Finally - what don''t you like when it comes to rings! For your engagement ring, for your wedding ring or for his wedding ring! And it''s okay to be honest. We all have different tastes, likes/dislikes, etc.

I hate those invisible clusters. I don't mind old vintage cluster rings, but I can't stand those that are sold at those teenage kid ran maul () stores. 4 0.25 ct princess cuts put together to look like a 2 carat. I can't help but roll my eyes at those. And I don't like bad quality diamonds. I have seen way too many larger, but spitball looking diamonds. Princess cuts are also on the bottom of my list.

So, any tips on how I could strike it rich? ;))

pandabee - I like your ideas! We have some very similar dislikes! I have one friend who has an illusion setting with 6 small princess cuts set into a rectangle to look emeraldy with a double halo, split prongs with diamonds the whole way around. It's a maul ring, quality of all the stones are bad, and she got SOOO many compliments on FB about how big it was, how 'gorgeous' it was, how much he must love her, blah blah blah. All I saw was a diamond explosion of frozen spit that looks ridiculous both on her and in general.

princesss - your tastes have changed a bit since the last iteration of this thread we participated in together! The old cut part hasn't changed though! Oh how I wish James Meyer was still taking customer stones. I just love that JM1345.

rsg - don't let anyone hate on your T&Co. If it's what you want and you can afford it, do it! Most of the PSers hate on T&Co a little bit because if you wanted to, you could get more for your money from a different vendor. PSers tend to be cut and carat hogs and T&Co just can't deliver the same as other vendors for a lesser price. But T&Co clearly has special meaning to you and that's important! I can't wait to see your ring!

phd - VC is beautiful stuff!I hope your BF can pin down a decision soon so you can get it in the works! The wait for it to arrive is hard! But I'm willing to bet that the wait after it's here will be harder!

madelise you make my laugh. I love all your rings! I hope you get at least one of them! :) :) That way I can totally try on your bling if I ever meet you in person!

If I were describing the dream ring: a 7mm square AVC with soft, pillowy corners with a culet that isn't too large. Clarity, eyeclean. Color a warm, creamy, vanilla color. Setting, some sort of bezel or semi bezel with a great profile of the stone. It will happen someday...but not for many, MANY more years.

pandabee - I like your ideas!

That sounds awful. Jewelers need to never write down "CTW" anywhere. They need to write, x ct, x ct, x ct for the APPEARANCE of a x ct. People that buy into those rings don't know any better and just think of their CTW and think "WOW! THATS HUGE!". And those viewers don't know any better, either, as all they see is "finger coverage" and "lots of diamonds" so they think it must be SOOO expensive. It's okay. We're all allowed to continue fake gushing at "gorgeous" rings IRL for the sake of our buddies and come on PS and vomit what we were forced to keep in ;-)

I'm glad you love all my imaginary rings. We will meet some day! I mean, we both live in destination spots. We're both bound to travel at some time, right? Lol. MMM I also love the AV line.. YUMMY! and I will get one of them! Positive thinking : )

I swear, just like how they have the "rent the runway" and "borrow bag or steal", we should have a "rent the bling" where we cycle through all the blingaliciousness that people post here.

It is awful. I snagged a photo of it and cropped it down. The quality isn't great, but it shows you what I mean. It's a stock setting at maul jewelers so I think it's fine to post.

I do love your imaginary rings! I can't wait to meet you someday! And star sparkle!

Maybe that'll be my way of striking it rich! HAHA. But there's already adorn.com which has that service : ( I just checked. HAHa, oh darn. I was hoping to spend my life savings on some bling, and write it off at the end of the year as a business expense. Adorn doesn't offer rings.. but I figure rings would be hard to do since everyone has different sizes. Darn!

Oh boy, that ring made me cringe. Has PS made me that judgmental on bling?

Bummer! Dare to dream...

And yes, it doesn't make you bad...I totally cringed when I first saw it too. And was TOTALLY shocked at the nearly 100 comments it received about it's beauty, size, and "how much he loves her".

ETA: I think I found the vendor photo from Helzberg. If it's not the same ring....it's the same style as this one. 2CTW, average clarity is I2...

OH F*CKING GOD. WHO THE HECK WOULD PAY $4k FOR THAT P. O. S.?!? Seriously? It's not even worth 1k! Average clarity I2? It's literally frozen spit. You might as well take all the little diamond dust that they put on nail files and make that ring.

$4k can get you a NICE. NICE. NICE. ring. Why the hell would you waste that $ on that POS? Just for finger coverage? Oh god.. I thought it'd be no where over 2k.

yes it IS Tiffany after all! Heck no would I actually buy the Victoria. If I were to get that, I'd have it custom made. Those bead prongs (?) at the top are too big for my liking. And instead of a bead in between the "flower petals", I'd prefer a small RB. And I don't like the channel set top and bottom. Haha. Darn PS! Makes me so picky.

Have you seen Tuffy's? https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-new-pears.174029/

It's done it to me too! I think it's awful. I would honest to God rather have a small simple solitaire with a well cut diamond than that. And for the price?! Are you kidding me?!

not threadjacking at all...I definitely agree with you and that is exactly the kind of abomination I was referring to!!!!! I do hope to see more preferences though, nice to see a glimpse of everyone's personalities from their ring prefs!

this looks fun :)

1) Do you know what kind of engagement ring you want? Diamond (or other stone), size, shape, metal type, side stones vs. solitaire, etc.? Post some pictures!
i want (and am getting!) RB cut, 1 carat, pave tapered band, 6 prong tiffany setting.

2) Does your FF know what you want? If not, will you tell him/give him some ideas, or leave it all up to him to choose?
he knows what i want, but it's also what he wants - he has very good taste in jewellery so i trust him!

3) Will you/Did you go ring shopping with him?
we're getting the ring custom made, but we did go and look at rings in shops to get an idea of how the details look in person. so fun!

4) Do you have an idea of what his budget is?
an idea, yes.

5) How about a wedding band? What do you like? Do you want it to be part of a matching set with the e-ring?
i want a plan, fairly thin white gold/platinum band. it won't be a matching set, but i want each to stand out and be different, but complimentary.

6) Wedding band for you guy? Do you know what he likes? Do you want it to match your ring?
he wants a plain, fairly thin band, much like my own.

7) Finally - what don''t you like when it comes to rings! For your engagement ring, for your wedding ring or for his wedding ring! And it''s okay to be honest. We all have different tastes, likes/dislikes, etc.
i have very small hands and thin fingers, so i would never want a thick band, or too bulky a design.

I originally wanted the tacori halo with an antique cushion in it, white gold or platinum. This will be my second marriage and I had a round the first time around and i had no say on the setting whatsoever so i've made my preferences very clear this time. So now, i just want a cushion halo but want him to pick it out.

2) Does your FF know what you want? If not, will you tell him/give him some ideas, or leave it all up to him to choose?
Oh yes. I've only sent him like 50 something pictures, he better know by now! I told him my main thing was that i wanted it to sparkle. It didn't need to be big but it had to sparkle! :)

3) Will you/Did you go ring shopping with him?
We've gone to one actual store just to try rings on. Then we did a lot of online shopping.

4) Do you have an idea of what his budget is?
I'm not exactly sure, i'm guessing. He already has the ring and the appraisal so i guess i'll find out soon!

5) How about a wedding band? What do you like? Do you want it to be part of a matching set with the e-ring?
I'm not sure i even want a wedding band with my ring.

6) Wedding band for you guy? Do you know what he likes? Do you want it to match your ring?
For the most part. He just wants it comfortable but he would be happy with a $20 ring.

7) Finally - what don''t you like when it comes to rings! For your engagement ring, for your wedding ring or for his wedding ring! And it''s okay to be honest. We all have different tastes, likes/dislikes, etc.
Not a fan of princess cuts at all. Hearts, marquise...blech. However pear halos have really grown on me! Not sure i would want them for myself but i think they are pretty. I like the look of emeralds but i've never seen one sparkle. That's a big deal for me.

Add me to the list that hates the 10 tiny diamonds jammed together trying to make it look like one big diamond. Gag.

the newest picture of my 7 mm sapphire, it doesn't always look like this, but it can:
photo(3)_1.jpg

Hand shot for size
DSCF2173.jpg

2) Does your FF know what you want? If not, will you tell him/give him some ideas, or leave it all up to him to choose?
He knows exactly what I want, but I've been doing all the emailing with vendors.

it'll either be this:
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/three-stone/crossed-trellis-18k-white-gold-5460w18
with .15 side stones (3.4 mm) so a very different ratio than the ring on the site
or this:
http://www.since1910.com/engagement/precision-set/precision-set-flush-fit-milgrain-diamond-engagement-ring-7206-ps3382.aspx
without milgraine

3) Will you/Did you go ring shopping with him?
Yes, got him sized and everything

4) Do you have an idea of what his budget is?
I know it, and may end up going $100 over it... Oops :Up_to_something:

5) How about a wedding band? What do you like? Do you want it to be part of a matching set with the e-ring?

I want them to go together, the bead set I like was a matching band and the three stone will go well with a low-dome 2mm. Either way I'll wear them together and I don't want the bands to go over 5 mm together.

6) Wedding band for you guy? Do you know what he likes? Do you want it to match your ring?
I have a whole (secret not attached to my normal account, so people don't wonder why I'm pinning men's rings when we aren't engaged) pinterest board for him. It's got a lot of tungsten rings that have something special about them (grooves, cool finishes, so on) and a lot of titanium with yellow gold/silver/ or enamel inlay.

7) Finally - what don''t you like when it comes to rings! For your engagement ring, for your wedding ring or for his wedding ring! And it''s okay to be honest. We all have different tastes, likes/dislikes, etc.
I don't want him to have the tungsten with stepped down sides all his friends have!
I don't like square stones, halos, or anything that sits too high up.

ooh you last few ladies already have em coming along! :appl:

beesha, I originally wanted a Tacori as well! I saw a photo of it in a magazine, and HAD to have it. It re-sparked my original interest in diamonds.. and here I am, a few years later, stalking PS. I'm curious what halo you'll end up with!

wow maebelle, that's so BLUE! I love that color, it totally matches the picnic bench (?). I like the 3 stone trellis : )
