So an important part of my proposal is finding a ring box. I'd easily spend a hundred dollars or so on a nice box, jsut wondering if anyone has any recommendations.

I like vintage sterling ring boxes and art deco celluloid boxes. Take a lot at ebay for ideas.

Also, I've seen little figurines encrusted with crystals that open up with just enough space for a ring. Something like this would be neat!

Some good ideas, I wasn't really familiar with the celluloid boxes, but seeing those they might be a good fit.

I went through about 6 different boxes with friends. This is the one I ended up using, over a couple more expensive ones, and several cheaper ones:

http://www.amazon.com/Cherry-Wood-Ring-Box/dp/B007894G2O/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1339534948&sr=8-9

Everyone thought the more 'impressive' or fancier boxes just distracted from the ring, but thought the plain leather and fabric boxes were boring. The heavily lacquered cherry wood with a white leather interior was classy without being distracting. I'm glad I went with it instead of one of the other boxes, or instead of doing something really elaborate.

My original idea involved getting some kind of hand-carved decorative box from ten thousand villages or a similar shop, and having a ring pillow made or it. It would have been too much of a distraction, not to mention much harder to hide and to carry around. :)

Vintage boxes are always nice. Definitely some kind of fine texture, like soft suede, would be a great look for a ring box.

You absolutely need to check out my thread if you are looking for a nice ring box... very unique and modern

I bought it recently, they come from New Zealand ... mine is made of Tawa timber and aluminium and set me back around $100

I have made a post in the thread specifically dedicated to the ring box with their wesite details
