I know metal prices have gone up-up-up, but I took a diamond band that I have to a local jeweler to see about rhodium plating it.....He said it would be about $70+. Its a smaller ring - only 2mm wide on the backside of the band, and 2.5mm on the front with diamonds covering most of the surface area of 1/2 the band. Does this seem like a high price to anyone else?

Here in Australia I paid $60 AUD at a reputable jeweller, and that was irrespective of the band width/diamond coverage.

That seems crazy. I have a local jeweler here who will do it for free and I didn''t even buy the ring there.

I know of places that used to do it for free, but with insane prices of Rhodium 7000/oz I can't imagine anyone would do it for free

Come on out here! Just had mine done for free the other day. My ering and WB are platinum, but I have other WG pieces so I sure hope they don''t stop the free service!

I recently had my rings re-plated. I called a shop to get pricing and expected to pay what they charged: $35 per ring and they would do it while I wait. After waiting 15-20 minutes, they returned my rings to me. They looked amazing. As I was about to pay the gal waived me off and said “don’t worry about it, enjoy and have a nice day” *gulp* That was very nice of them!

That''s super that they did it for free!!!! I''m going to go to another store that I do more business with. I just stopped at this place because it was right by my house....I figured, it was an easy thing, no biggy, and I was expecting something around $20-$30 from what I had heard from other people! Imagine my surprise!

70.00 is very high. The company i work for re-plates for free if its from our store and charges 30.00(up 5.00)for outside jewelry from other stores. There is a differance between keeping up with the high cost of metals and labor and then there is gauging the customer...70.00 is to much.

Hi Kim,

Chalmer''s is the store that always does it for me for free. Are you in Madison?

used to be most places would do it for free if it didnt need a polish first now most are like $5 or $10

Thanks, neatfreak! I appreciate it!

I have never paid that much, the most was about $20. I do have a regular jeweler now and he will do it for free.

I''m not sure if I''m allowed to name names (I''m new), but normally i dislike the mall jewelry stores, BUT...Zales does it for about $30.00 and it is amazing. if you get to know your person, they can send it in when the best jeweler is in and I have noticed a difference in how brilliant it is. But 70 is way way way too much. I even went to a high-end jeweler in town and they did it on the spot for like 20.00.
