Hi everyone,

I'm currently having an issue with my new u-prong eternity band. Basically, I ordered the same size as a ring that I wear daily, but when it arrived, it was so loose that it would barely stay on my finger (despite showing up as the same size as my original ring on the mandrel). My guess is that this is due to the spaces between the U shapes, though I didn't realize this would happen.

D&T, if you happen to see this post - I saw that you had the same issue a long time ago with your cup-shape eternity band. I just wanted to ask, when you sent it back, did they find that it was the same size as you had ordered, or was it actually larger?

Others - is this a known issue with u-prong rings? I.e. should the vendor have been able to predict this? I've been asked to pay to remake the ring, or pay to put an insert in (which isn't ideal because at the moment, it's so large that I can't even close my fingers around it).

Hey Callalily! (love your name! my favorite flowers)

is the eternity band that you have the same as mine? i haven't gone through your posts yet, I'll check that out as well, what happens where the "u" meets making the upside down "v" like attached actually creates this extra space/pocket for your finger to expand into and in effect is considered a very very low setting which I LOVE but obviously too large for my finger! The down side on the madrel is that it is solid and only touches the very bottom of the U not taking in effect the "extra" space if that makes sense....

I then sent back my ring to have a thin "metal ring" placed on the underside as shown, however with this new method (it made the eternity ring uncomfortable and the profile actually sat higher too) I wasn't happy with the solution and ultimately I ended up dismantling it as I have a love/hate relationship with eternity bands.
Is there anyway, they can remove one diamond and pull it in? in some setting it is possible as I have done it in the past, however the band I had was all bezel.

Bummer that this happened to you.... In this kind of style I would recommend the same size ring or 1/4 tad smaller if worn on its own due to those "extra" space pocket created from the "u" I would hope that Jewelers would be more aware of this because really as I said earlier,,, anything that has "extra pocket created by this type of "u" doesn't account for those extra space on the mandrel which may cause a size difference. Its unfortunate :(sad .

But.....

With this photo.. I think this ring photo is courtesy of Katiedid - hope you don'[t mind her ring (left side) has more compacted U so I wouldn't think the space impacted much on the size difference. My ring on the right shows clearly spread out scalloped instead of "u" so the extra space will very well affect the size that one should get.

Hi D&T! Thank you so much for responding, I really appreciate it! :D

Yes! This is exactly what I thought was the reason, well, that and the fact that the shape of the inside of the ring is rounded and therefore slides a lot more easily than a flat band. Mine is more squat than yours, more like Katiedid's, but it still seems to be an issue :( I also don't like the idea of putting a thin ring on the inside, which is what they suggested to me as well.

This has just been such a nightmare :( They seem reluctant to even remake it because I seem uncertain about the size, but I don't know how I'm supposed to know what size to make it! I seem to fit anywhere between size 4 and 5... I have one ring in size 4 that is quite snug, and one in size 5 that is more generous, but they both are comfortable. I didn't expect to have to pay an extra $1000 for my wedding ring on top of what I had already budgeted, but I just can't figure out what else to do :( I wish, considering that this has happened before, that I had been warned about it by them :(

would you consider the ring on the underside for the time being? so you don't spend the additional funds? later down the road it can be removed in case your ring size fluctuates more. The metal ring on the underside should help slightly on the size and you could wear your e ring to keep it snug, I know this wasn't something you anticipated and I hadn't either :(sad I had other issues with my ring that made me dismantle it. I'm so sorry you are going through this.. Let them put that disc ring on the inside for now, so long as it doesn't cost you another dime, then reassess after you receive later?

If you do have them place the metal ring on the underside, please ask them to make it a little more rounded, when they did mine, it was thin and flat, and it felt like it was cutting into my finger since it just felt like a piece of wire wrapped on my finger :errrr: .. so a little rounded and more width should help the comfort

I think I might just go for the remake now... it's financially painful, but I'd rather just get it over with and not have to think about it anymore! I was thinking of just getting the bead-set eternity instead, because it's got the flat inner surface and might not give me the same issues. The u-prong shape is so beautiful, but I would cry a lot if I got it back and it still didn't fit! :D

Thank you so much for your responses, it's nice to know that I'm not the only person this has happened to at least!

if you love the U prong, you should send in a ring that fits you the best and have that measured for certainty (instead of giving them a size as some mandrels are different), I'd hate for you to forgo the ring you love :(sad
