My engagement ring has already been resized, but it still fits loosely on my finger. The setting is wide, it covers nearly the entire width of my finger, which is why the jeweler was unable to pull down the edges of the ring to have it fit better. Does that make sense?? Basically, when you look at my ring from the side, with the diamond facing the ceiling, my ring sort of looks wider than it is tall. Surrounding my center diamond are several baguettes and sapphires that cannot be bent downward any further. I really hope I''m being clear, it''s hard to describe!

Anyway, I have been given the option of placing sizing beads inside the ring, which I really don''t want to do. I am wondering if any of you are more knowledgeable on the subject and you can give me more ideas. I actually need to be visiting my jeweler soon to replace a lost sapphire, and I was thinking that it might be possible to remove the outermost stones, pull the sides down, and replace the stones. I may need to attach a picture to explain what I mean, but if anyone has tips please let me know!! Thanks!!!

I would rather have sizing beads put in then jack with the appearance/structural integrity of my ring. Sizing beads can be placed and then removed.

Removing stones changing the look of your ring and then replacing the stones may not be feasible. What if they try and size it in the way you suggest then you don''t like it? What if they can''t change it back?

I wore a ring with sizing beads for 10 years for the same reason that you are describing. My jeweler said that if he sized it down anymore the baguettes would pop out.

Go with sizing beads or a horseshoe. They are not a big deal.

Hopefully someone with bench experience will respond to give you a more technical answer. Also, do you have a clearer picture of the ring so we can see the placement of the stones you want moved? It might help us in answering.

What about soldering in a thin strip of gold on the inside at the bottom to shim it up? Done right, that should feel more comfortable than feeling those sizing beads. It would be trickier to get the thickness just right so that inner diameter is reduced but the ring is neither too large nor too small. But I''d say it could be done.

A pricey but perhaps more aesthetically pleasing fix: hinged shank?

We were looking into these for FI (big knuckles). They''re $$$ and I think you can only order them from certain vendors, but any jeweller can do the shank switch.

I''d go with beads or horseshoe or HVVS'' fix first, though.

maybe give something like these a shot? they''re not expensive so if they don''t work no huge loss there

Does the vinyl ring come off easily on its own, especially for thin engagement/wedding rings about 2 mm wide? How wide is the vinyl ring? I guess that for wider rings of 3 mm or more, there is enough grip, so the vinyl ring will more likely stay in place. Has anyone had any successful experience with these vinyl rings? I may try them if there is enough good feedback.

As for the metal ring guard, I am afraid to use it, because I do not want it to scartch my expensive ring.

I think the best solution is to solder the beads for now. As you age and especially after you have children, your ring size will increase. Then, you can remove the beads, and hopefully the ring will fit.

One caution about the various solutions is that whatever works for you will depend greatly on how much larger your ring is compared to your finger size. Even for the beads, I wonder if the bead size should vary according to your ring size difference. Furthermore, I wonder if the beads are even a good solution if your finger size difference is larger than one whole size.

For my case, I think my finger size is 5 3/4, and my ring is a size 6. In summer, my ring fits comfortably, although a tiny bit loose. Now, it gets colder, and my ring starts to move and spin. For the 1/4-1/2 size difference due to season change, I do not want to bother with another resize or beads. Instead, I have a temporary fix - a bandage cut to size so that the bandage is only on the back side of my finger. There is enough coverage (therefore friction) to keep the ring in place (from moving up/down or spinning). As the most part of the bandage is the padded cloth 9instead of glued tape), it feels very comfortable. Since the color of the bandage is close to skin color, it blends in. You may think this solution is tacky, but it solves my seasonal size change problem. Of course, if the vinyl ring turns out to be a better solution, I want to use it.
