Hi,

I don''t want my GF to know "too much" that I am looking for a ring, so I can''t really ask her to measure her finger size...

Is it saffer to resize a ring down or up? What does jewelers usually prefer to do? It looked to me (complete novice) that with a too small ring you could just heat it a bit and expand it...
and also, is it as easy to resize platinum or gold?

This is my first post here, I hope I didn''t ask something stupid...

I've heard that it's harder to resize platinum than it is to resize gold, although neither should be difficult for a good jeweller. I would much prefer to receive a too-big ring than a too-small ring: 1) I can immediately put it on and see how it looks; 2) I'd rather not suspect that I have a fat finger. Just my opinion!

Hi,

thanks for the really fast answers.
I was thinking of a classic tiffany style 6 prongs setting in white gold or platinum (not sure yet). The stone is going to be around 1/2 carat, and I am sure to make a mistake on the finger size of 1 size max, so I guess I don't need to worry about the resize from what you said.

I am still shopping around for the stone, and learning... One thing I know for sure I will use this forum before I decide for any stone.
