Resetting stones?

I have a pair of smoky quartz earrings from Bali as a gift over 6 years ago, and I haven't been able to wear them for long. Namely, because first the prongs of the hoops did wonders to my lobes, and then one half snapped off later.

I love the setting of the stones & stones themselves, but is it possible to get them reset with a different style of earring backing? Not studs, but perhaps an alternative hoop, or or preferably leverback closure?

Yes. I would have the wires sniped off and the have chains added and make them like this, only with shorter chains and a different ear wire. Either posts or nice french hooks. Instead of two chains (one on either side) you can also do two on either side for a total of 4.

Darn, I can't wear those, I am bedridden so the closure will be too delicate. The fishhook idea is a good one though!
