kismet,
thks..this is a 3k per ct sapphire and the backside of the diamond (the pedestal?) is off-centered...but it is natural and free of inclusions...I just don''t know what to look for, so I appreciate your input...attached is a round sapphire from same company..appreciate your thoughts. (btw, I have the dimensions and other pics of the oval).

The round doesn''t look like it has the gray mask that the oval does so the round''s color does look nicer. It still has a bit of a window but whether that bothers you or not, only you can say.
Here are some pictures of some very well cut sapphires so that you can see the difference. And here is an article about buying colored stones. I''d ignore the bit about concave faceting being better... again, personal preference whether or not you like the look.
If the pictures accurately reflect the color of teh stones, then both are lovely in that regard.
They are obviously in the mixed native cut, and I think there can be a certain charm to that, even if the stones are not 100 % symmetrical. I only think it is a real problem if there is a very pronounced window, no fire, or the stone is completely lopsided. When buying stones online, I generally feel safer if the seller has images showing the stone from more than one angle.
It''s always nice to get a second opinion (especially from one or more experts), but in the end, it comes down to if you would be happy with what you get for the money you pay for it.
thanks everyone...i am planning on buying sight unseen and both of these stones are over $9000....because they have high clarity and great color I am attracted to them..I was not aware of the facets/cutlets being off-centered etc. I just assumed that the gemstone cutter cuts in a manner that enhances the beauty of the stone...it sounds like most everyone believes i should get the round..
i have attached another round 3.2 carat blue sapphire for your consideration...i think i understand what you mean when you say native cut...basically done by hand versus machine? anyhow this, pic is of a sapphire that is per carat more expensive and when i looked at the report it looked like more uniform cuts...therefore, i suppose it will have more "fire" right?
The cut of the second round is by far the best of the lot but I like the color of the first round. Make sure the place you buy it from has a good return policy. Colored gemstones tend to be darker in person than in photos and what you get may not look exactly like what you see in the photo.
