I''ve been to a few brick and mortar stores with my girlfriend to get her opinions on bands and shapes. We''ve agreed on a princess cut diamond, and I have a good idea of the band that she would like. She isn''t terribly picky about the four C''s and wants more diamond for the money. I''d like to get an AGS0 ideal princess cut between 1.0 and 1.3 carats with an I or better color and SI2 or better in clarity. My budget is around $8,000 total and have budgeted roughly $6,500 for the diamond. I came across an infinity princess in a K color that looks appealing. I saw a GOG video comparing a H and K princess and don''t think either my girlfriend or I would notice or care about the difference. The diamond would be mounted in a white gold setting.

Thanks for your help!

Here''s an example of a set "M" AGS 0 round diamond. The pictures leave much to be desired (as in a new digital camera - is x-mas here yet?

) but I have fallen in LOVE

with this diamond. I have a "D" colored diamond also, but to me the "D" is just too cold and icy

. Sometimes the color will really come out, but most of the time it has a nice warmth to it

p.s. the diamonds in the two small bands are F/G colored SI clarity

Looks good to me.

I would ask them what is that in the bottom right quadrant near the centre of the diamond maybe its dirty? Looks too big for a VS1 inclusion.
Also go see J and K colored Round and Princess diamonds locally to see if you still like the color, try to find ideal cut diamonds but the average one will give you a fair idea of what to expect.
You will see color the most in dim lighting like under a table.

Its a beautiful diamond, it is possible you might see a little warmth however Infinity can disguise tint very well in some cases so keep an open mind, if you could view the diamond in person that would be best if this vendor is close enough to visit, or perhaps the vendor could make a video for you of the stone if they offer that service. I would try to view some K colour so if you look in person try to look at some, if you can't find well cut K colour Princess but commercial quality cuts of this colour ( GIA or AGS graded) and you find this is acceptable, a fine cut Infinity should be safe!

Ditto Lorelei. The Infinity cut quality will lessen any face-up tint. You may see a faint tint from the sides or bottom of the stone. I saw Infinity princess cut stones in person for the first time last week. The double-chevron cut displays a lot more fire than the typical three-chevron stone. So they are an attractive and unusual stone that will catch a lot of attention, especially in the 1.0+ carat size.

Just for reference, I am attaching a photo of an L color Infinity princess (not sure of the carat size). This ring belongs to Lieve of Crafted by Infinity.

ETA: John Pollard of Crafted by Infinity took this photo (I think he saw her ring in person at the Vegas Jewelry Show).

I actually had Lieve''s Princess in mind when referring to how well Infinity can face up, thanks for posting that Sara! I know folk are regularly kerflummoxed when they learn the colour grade of her stone!

You are most welcome, Lorelei! I love Lieve's ring, and I keep a picture of it in my "if I win the lottery" file on my desktop

I would disagree slightly with this comment. An ideal cut diamond will almost always show less color face up than an average cut diamond, sometimes extremely. Also Paul cuts his princess cuts with two chevrons rather than three or four, and this also has an affect on how the diamonds appear, both in light performance and in how the color may appear. While I agree that our OP should be looking at diamonds, unless he is looking at a two chevron AGS 0 cut diamond he is not really going to know what to expect with this diamond.

It is one of those personality issues, some will love the look of the two chevrons, and some will prefer three or even four chevrons., they all have to be seen for our OP to make an informed choice.

It is difficult to judge solely with a photograph what a grade should be. For one we do not know the magnification of the photo exactly, but I am guessing somewhere around 40x in the popup. Paul probably knows for sure, but I do not. It is a transparent crystal that is definitely not going to be eye visible and it is going to be somewhat difficult to see with a loupe if you are not using darkfield lighting to make it show up as it does in the photo supplied by Infinity.

I am very comfortable with AGS grading, in fact I am often after them to be only as strict as GIA not stricter, so I am going to guess that this diamond is indeed a VS1, even though the inclusion does look big in the photograph.

Especially those in the trade who frequently guess in the F-G range when looking at it without a loupe.

I can also vouch for well cut princesses facing up whiter. Mine is a very white I (Whiteflash ACA rather than Infinity, but both are branded AGS ideal cuts). The other thing I would suggest is looking for a K or so with medium to strong blue fluorescence, which can make it appear whiter. Infinity diamonds are sometimes cut in this range, so you could ask Wink to contact Paul and see what may be in the works.

LOL! John told me that, I can see why they would do so even in a photo, that diamond looks white!
