I've inherited my grandmother's platinum, diamond channel set band. I feel like the channel walls might be thin (they seem thin to me- but I'm no expert.)

Could an expert tell me 1) How thick the walls of platinum channel set diamonds should be and 2) If it is possible to build up the channel without ruining or damaging the ring.

Thanks so much!

Do you have pictures to post to show the wear on the ring? If it's an heirloom it very well needs to have work done to it. Depending on the setting it might be best to send it to Ari at singlestone-he's an expert at repairing/making vintage pieces. If it's not a filigree/delicate piece you might be able to find a good local bench person to work on it but if it's that important to you to make it as close to the original as possible I'd shoot Ari www.singlestone.com with photos and see if he can help.

Good luck!

I recently had a 1924 platinum ring thickened up - the prongs and gallery were worn very thin. Cost about $1000 and should be good for another 87 years!
