I have an incredible wedding ring but the center stone is a fake 3.0ct. I want to now replace that with a 1.5ct real diamond that we are finally able to purchase. Now all the sudden I realize that I will be remounting with a smaller stone. Is that possible?? How much should I expect to pay to have the fake large stone taken out and a new smaller one put in?? Thanks.

Not enough information for us to help you. If you can post a picture of the ring, some of us may be able to help you with logistics and price. Is the current stone held in by a head that can be changed? Can the stones in the ring take the heat of changing the center section? Does the center section need altering, thereby making the ring a slighly smaller size? Or maybe it is very easy? I passed on a job in July that a customer would not believe me that would not work the way she wanted it done. She took it around and finally found a small (very nice guy) who tried it. He ruined her ring, not because of workmanship, just an idea that could not work. Now we are helping him make a new one as cheap as possible. At least he was responsible enough to pay to fix it. Now he will not try such things again. If you bring it to someone who makes jewelry every day, they can assist you in what can be done and how much.
